We boarded the Hallberg-Rassy 69, the Swedish shipyard’s largest hull ever: a pure blue water cruiser of 22 meters that immediately dreams of going around the world. Signature, as always, of the German Frers studio.
Center cockpit, significant displacement, classic lines that show a lot of desire to sail even upwind, and signature German Frers. Nothing is missing; the greatest HR ever is true to its DNA. The formula that created the myth, birth date 1943, remains the same.
Elegance first
The volumes, both fore and aft are contained, the aft edge is barely noticeable. Very elegant leapfrog that rises slightly toward the bow stretching into the structural bowsprit, sober design along the broadside of four rectangular windows. The boat is made under the banner of maximum structural strength. The hull is solid laminate for the immersed part, sandwich with Divinycell core for the dead work.
Rugged, for sailing anywhere
The joints with the bulkheads are with faceting on both sides, the same goes for the union with the deck which does not involve “holes” with screws or through-bolts. The gelcoat is isophthalic, the first layers are vinylester resin, and an internal structural spider provides stiffness. Unidirectional fiber reinforcements were made on the highest load points.
Hallberg-Rassy 69. The boat of life
The bulb is lead (2.75 meters) and there is no lack of a deep bilge. In the engine room is a 300-hp Volvo penta D6 with an inline transmission. The diesel tank is 2,300 liters, and the water tank is 1,900. In short, there was no skimping on weight (45 tons) but strength and durability, as in the DNA of the shipyard, are guaranteed.
