All set in Antigua for one of the 600-mile super-classics: the Rorc Caribbean 600, the 600-mile IRC offshore classic that starts and finishes in Antigua (Caribbean) and winds along 11 Caribbean islands, reaching Saint Martin in the north and descending south to the small island of Les Saintes opposite Guadeloupe.
A total of 64 boats have registered for the 2024 edition of the super classic, divided among IRC, Class 40 and multihull categories. Representing Italy were two boats, Sergio Giglio’s Southern Wind 102 EgiWave and Enrico Calvi’s Dufour 34 Duffy. The latter will be one of the smaller boats in this RORC Caribbean 600 fleet. Duffy by the way is, with its owner, now a regular attendee of all the international super classics, from the Middle Sea to the Fastnet to the ARC and the RORC Caribbean 600, Duffy is often present.
RORC Caribbean 600 – The Favorites
Overall victory is awarded by IRC overall, although highly coveted is also the line of honor, which goes to the first boat to cross the finish line in real time. Among multihulls, the battle should be confined to the three MOD 70s, Argo, Zoulou and Limosa.
Among monohulls, however, one of the super favorites is Leopard 3, the Farr 100 that already won the Aegean 600 last summer and is one of the fastest monohulls around among those taking part in the great offshore classics. Leopard also won the line of honor at the Rolex Middle Sea Race 2023.
