2024 will be the year of the America’s Cup in Barcelona, which will be run with the AC 75s, but it will also be an opportunity to see the consolidation of the AC 40 Class, which made its debut at the America’s Cup Preliminary Regattas and will be the official boat of the Youth and Women America’s Cup.

The AC 40s in fact are now a class, whose Manager is Italian Luca Rizzotti, one of the founders of Foiling Week, and the first sale of an AC40 to a private owner was recently announced. Team New Zealand came up with the concept for the boat, whose construction rights are owned by McConaghy Boats, which makes the boats in its factory in China.

So far, 11 AC 40s have been launched, but it should be considered that some teams own two, such as Team New Zealand, so this would be the first 40 intended for a private team. Who? It is not yet known, but there are rumors of a sailing team that already has some experience, ready for a change of class.

Luca Rizzotti, comments: “As interest continues to grow in the AC40 Class, nearly a dozen venues have approached us confirming their interest in hosting events in late 2024 and in 2025, and with easy shipping and logistics for the AC40, some of these venues are incredibly exciting places to sail.”

The stated goal of the class is to bring owners to the helm on a circuit of high-level adventurers where AC40s will be the stars.
