Breton naval architecturefirm Finot-Conq, specializing in monohulls and famous for designing cruising and performance boats such as Beneteau and Pogo, surprises everyone with an explosive announcement: Will build a 38-meter cruising catamaran capable of whizzing at speeds of more than 30 knots! Made to order for an enthusiastic owner, Will be ready in two years. Here’s what we know so far.
Finot-Conq ‘s mega catamaran: comfortable and ulta fast.
Finot-Conq’s new catamaran is not only fast, it is also luxurious and ultra-comfortable. The specifications had to meet the wishes of an owner who wanted a fast cruising catamaran that could cruise regularly and comfortably at over 30 knots. The hulls, consequently, are long and narrow, like those of a racing catamaran, to minimize drag.
Space, however, is not lacking on board, 38 meters long and 14.50 meters maximum beam. This catamaran can accommodate up to 12 guests in 4 cabins in addition to the owner’s suite. Another 2 cabins are reserved for the crew.
The sail area is very generous, over 700 square meters, while the weight of the hulls is kept to a minimum: only 80 tons. All maneuvers are grouped on the flybridge to make them easier to handle while sailing. On the ecological front, in order to reduce the environmental impact of such a project, the Finot-Conq team worked to drastically reduce the number of disposable molds and maximize the use of flat parts produced on the table, reusing decommissioned aeronautical prepreg carbon, and finally, the visible part, the 140m2 of solar panels that will produce energy for life on board.
