French shipyard Pogo Structures, which specializes in building open ocean racing and fast cruisers, will launch a new addition to the market: the new Pogo RC. Little information has been released about the boat, but we do know that it will be around 33 feet long, a 10-meter in short, and will be inspired by IRC regulations, so it will be predominantly a sport and racing boat.
Pogo RC – Who’s behind it
The design of the boat was entrusted to two specialists in fast hulls: Sam Manuard (leading signature among Mini 650, Class 40 and Imoca 60) and Joubert Nivelt, a designer who is very active in the performance cruiser and racing boat sector.
The rigging layout includes eight winches, two of which are dedicated to the split backstay, which is mandatory in this configuration because the mainsail head will be square. For gybes in a strong wind, no worries, with a hand of reefing the mainsail passes easily under the staysails without needing to worry about it, thus making windward running quite easier.
Appendages and Deck
From the note circulated by the shipyard, the appendages will be geared to IRC regulations, so it is difficult to expect a torpedo T-keel, but more likely one with a trapezoidal shape rather elongated vertically to lower its center of gravity as much as possible.
In terms of aesthetics, on the other hand, the boat still has little unveiled, but the classic semi scow bow of the latest generation of boats designed for offshore racing, the short deckhouse, and the wide cockpit are already noticeable from the first render. In fact, as stated by the shipyard, the Pogo RC is designed for regattas such as the Rolex Fastnet or even the Transquadra.
