A new 650-berth marina – reserved for medium and small boats, will rise between Genoa Pra’ and Genoa Pegli (in the western part of the Ligurian city), where thehe Bagni Castelluccio Spa company, which has been present in the area for decades, will carry out an ambitious coastal redevelopment project. It will be possible to moor boats up to 14 meters, but the project also includes places reserved for smaller boats at transit, and for the disabled. Work starts this year. Here’s what we know for now.
A new 650 berth marina in Genoa
A new 650-berth marina in Genoa is great news for boaters, not only from Genoa but from all of northern Italy. Work will begin in 2024 on the Bagni Castelluccio SPA company’s efforts to redevelop and build the shoreline between Genoa Pegli and Genoa Pra’.
The new marina will be built with new works both on land and at sea. The new piers will be just one aspect of the project dedicated to boating and public enjoyment, which will see the continuation of the promenade, the construction of a driveway and 250 parking spaces to facilitate accessibility, and the enhancement of pedestrian access.
The new berths in Genoa Castelluccio
The new berths created by Marina di Castelluccio Spa, will be a total of 647 increasing the current berths by about 180. The new marina will be able to accommodate:
- 647 total places, for sail and motor boats up to 14 meters
- 292 places dedicated to vessels up to 6 meters (45%)
- 7 berths will be handicapped accessible
- 54 berths will be allocated for transit.
Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2024, so for the time being, the new seats are not yet bookable and prices have not been finalized.
The floor plan of the new berths
The boats will be arranged on new floating pontoons, oriented with the longitudinal axis parallel to the direction of the prevailing winds. The new berths, are well sheltered from the sea, as they are located within the breakwater of the Pra’ basin. The “calm” channel is so protected that rowing races are also held there. Berths for transient boats will be on the limits set at the boundary with the pier directly connected to land to limit travel distances.
The services of the new marina
The distribution of boating services will be along the entire length of the dock, in the functional separation band between vehicular/pedestrian traffic. Within modular elements, toilets, showers, and laundry and waste collection rooms will be placed among green spaces, benches, and Washingtonia palms. Small storage facilities will be placed on the east long pier to serve berth users.Completing the area to the east bordering the natural area of the Reawakening Rock, however, is a large public area equipped with commercial premises, a refreshment bar, and a platform with wooden steps, shaded by trees, on which to sit or lie down.
Where is Marina di Castelluccio
Marina di Castelluccio, is located in Genoa, close to the A10 Genova Pegli highway exit. We are in the port area inside the Pra seawall, west of the Genoa airport, as indicated by the arrow in the map. Marina di Castelluccio is also easily accessible by foot or bicycle, public transportation, bus, and train station.
Floor plans and details of the planned works can be downloaded in the municipal resolution approving the Urban Operational Plan in pdf and at www.marinadelcastelluccio.it
