Najad 390 – 11.75 m – Small big cruiser
The first of the three used Classic Boats for sale on our marketplace is a Najad 390 (11.75 x 3.50 m), designed by Thorwald Karlsson the Scandinavian shipyard, which thus churns out a mid-size cruiser with great marine qualities. The style is the familiar one: northern, high freeboard and central cockpit for maximum protection and comfort.
In the 1980s if you were looking for a boat of the kind now called Blue Water, Najad was the ultimate, along with Hallberg Rassy. The Najad 390 is particularly successful, with a Nordic look and a more graceful deckhouse than other models from the shipyard. The construction and finish are proverbial sturdy. Long-lived boat, in production from 1984 to 1995.
The specific model, the one for sale, is from 1984, and thus part of the first to be launched. In terms of upgrades and extraordinary maintenance, it boasts a new Volvo Penta engine, replaced in 2020, along with the propeller and cockpit teak. Instead, just the year before, the battery pack had been replaced. There is also heating on board, installed in 2014. The boat can be seen in Marina di Rimini.
Dufour Sortilege – 12.5 m – A French cult not to be underestimated
Following the bluewater we have instead a little French gem, designed by the great Michel Dufour himself, in 1971. It is a Dufour Sortilege (12.5 x 3.75 m), a 41-foot ketch-rigged, solid and marine. In its time it was also the shipyard flagship.
Solid and marine, full of the original solutions typical of the designs signed by the great Michel Dufour, the Sortilege was the Ketch brother of the Dufour 41, a boat capable of going anywhere and appreciated by lovers of true bluewater. In ’71 she was the yard’s flagship; today she is a great option for smooth sailing on a 1970s classic.
The Sortilege in question, visible in La Spezia, Liguria, was launched in 1974 and is powered by a 53-horsepower Perkins. There are as many as 12 sails on board and, not always a given for the time, the on-board windlass is electric.
J/130 – 13 m – A ULDB also cruising
To close, the third Classic Boat for sale that we offer today is an ultralight perfomance cruiser, a ULDB (ultra-light-displacement) signed by Johnstone. She is a J/130 (13.00 x 2.9 m), a 1992 design conceived to hybridize the fast pace of super-light displacement hulls with the comfort and ease of use of cruisers. In short, a comfortable boat, manageable in a few, but also suitable for racing.
A nimble and fast ULDB, it has been a popular hull, especially in the U.S. Another great design by Johnstone, which, here, well hybridizes the lightness and fast pitch principles of Ultra Light Displacement with a layout that allows for easy enjoyment, even with a small crew. Narrow beam and bulb make it a good performer, but cruising is not ruled out.
The J/130 in question can be seen in La Spezia, Liguria, and dates back to 1993. A 40-horsepower Yanmar engine is installed on board, and the propeller has folding blades. In terms of sails, there are Mainsail, Genoa (2), Jib, Turret, Jib, Spinnaker and Gennaker.
