The Jeanneau shipyard is about to retire its Sun Odyssey 349 to make way for the new Sun Odyssey 350, a boat that will be designed by naval architecture firm Lombard Yacht Design and naval architecture and design firm Piaton Yacht Design.
This is not an easy task, as the goal is to replace a boat that has been sold in nearly 1,000 hulls, including charter and owner cruising.
Sun Odyssey 350 – What a boat it is
The boat will make its world premiere at the Dusseldorf Boat Show, January 20-28, 2024. It can be customized in some details to fit the owner’s schedule, and offers different keel versions to meet the expectations of different sailors: a deep draft (1.98 m), a shallow draft (1.49 m) or a pivoting keel draft. The Sun Odyssey 350 is offered in an electric-powered version, available for coastal sailing.
The other special feature of this boat is that the stern-to-bow walkway solution without steps, as already seen on the larger Sun Odysseys in the range, is reintroduced. A way to facilitate movement on board and allow movement from the wheelhouse to the bow on one level.
Instead, defining the size of the “easy sail” is the solution adopted for the backstay, which is eliminated altogether, with the 30-degree spreader angle taking over the rig. With this choice, the helmsman’s seat is more spacious and comfortable, the deckhouse extends aft increasing interior volumes, and the cockpit remains spacious because the wheelhouses can be positioned on the extreme aft.
Interiors will be available with two or three cabins.
