Catamarans are the boats of the present and the future. Comfortable more than a house, very easy to manage, and faster sailing than it used to be. Until a few years ago we could identify two distinct segments of the multihull market, the comfortable and charter cruising segment, and the high-end and sport cruising segment. Very different types of boats used to belong to the two segments, but today this “fragmentation” is more labile. Excluding the world of luxury and one-offs, there are both comfortable and high-performance models, where with a few layout changes (already provided by the shipyards) going from owner to charter use is a breeze. For some time now, yards have then resumed launching “small” cat boats, which can boast the same size as an average length monohull. Here are five catamaran models under 12 meters that you can find in the December January Sailing Newspaper Catamaran Special and in the brand new Catamaran Pavilion inside our Boat Show.

Excess 11 – 11.93 meters

Excess catamarans are characterized by a sporty aesthetic and are designed for a cruiser who likes to hoist sails on vacation-this is the philosophy behind the Excess 11,12,14 and 15, from 11 to 15 meters. TheExcess 11 is smaller than the Excess fleet (11.33 x 6.59 m). Seen from the bow, you can see the step on the hull that increases the volumes of the cabins. The “transparent” deckhouse, which makes the dinette of 11 panoramic, stands out. Excesses are characterized by excellent sailing performance.
Catamarans under 12 m. C-Cat 38 – 11.73 meters

C-Cat, the catamaran brand of Comar Yachts, is the Italian alternative for sporty two-hulled cruisers. The yard’s range has five sail models in production, the C-Cat 37,38, 48,56, 65. The C-Cat 38 represents an upgrade of the 37, the model with which the shipyard entered the catamaran market. The sporty line is the one that also distinguishes its predecessor, but it is longer (11.73 x 5.84 m), has more space and a redesigned cockpit.
Catamarans under 12m. Bali Catsmart – 11.79 meters

MadMax Nautical Franchising differs from all other fleets because it charters boats exclusively with skippers and is the only one to have an in-house school that trains and certifies them with a 20-day Full immersion course. But in addition to renting them, he also sells catamarans. The Bali Catsmart with a length of 11.79 meters and a width of 6.46 meters, still carries Bali’s characteristic DNA and features such as a solid forward cockpit, a comfortable salon that merges with the aft cockpit, and a unique overhead door.
Isla 40 – 11.93 meters
TheIsla 40 is Fountaine Pajot’s entry-level catamaran, the boat that’s tempting to charter. Here the designers chose to keep the net in the bow-an interesting solution, which contains the boat’s displacement and improves its center of gravity. No real flybridge is provided for the 40 although the rigging and wheelhouse are elevated above the aft cockpit. The cockpit is in fact completely covered.
Nautitech 40 – 11.98 meters

Marina Yacht Sales is a renowned Italian boat buying and selling agency, specializing in charter and charter management. The company represents some of the best brands in the cruising industry including Bavaria Yachts, Dufour Catamarans, and Nautitech. The Nautitech 40 (11.98 X6.50 m) has in a small way the characteristics of its big sisters 44 and 48: panoramic deckhouse and no fly bridge, netting between the two hulls, tapered lines, a catamaran in high demand among private owners.
