Moody is one of the brands of the giant Hanse, dedicated to owner cruising on very comfortable boats, somewhat in the motorsailer style but in a decidedly modern sense in terms of design and equipment. The new addition is called the Moody DS 48, a boat that will not mince words when it comes to convenience and comfort.
Moody 48 DS – What a boat it is
The design is by Bill Dixon, who conceived a boat that the shipyard itself describes as a “monohull,” that is, a monohull with some features typical of cruising catamarans.
The panoramic deckhouse, the covered aft cockpit connected to the interior dinette via a single level, and the forward cockpit in front of the mast are some of the features that link this boat to the cat. The acronym DS stands for deck saloon, or panoramic dinette: this is on the same level as the aft cockpit, raised to remain on the same height as the deckhouse windows. To access the forward rooms, however, there are steps down to the forward cabin, which is on a lower level.
The forward cockpit
At the bow of the mast opens first a sunbathing area, located on the continuation of the deckhouse, then a full-fledged cockpit. Almost at the far bow, taking advantage of the boat’s width, which in that area nonetheless offers generous volumes in terms of width, is a proper cockpit, complete with a table and seating .
An idea clearly borrowed from the world of cruising catamarans, where, for example, Bali was one of the forerunners of a similar solution.
As for the interior, however, three cabins are available, and up to three bathrooms with separate showers are possible. The third cabin can also be configured as a multifunctional space, for example to accommodate a washing machine with integrated dryer.
