Christmas is approaching, it’s time for gifts! If you are running out of ideas and need to give a gift to a sailing enthusiast, a great idea is an annual subscription (digital+paper) to the Journal of Sailing. But what if the lucky person is already a subscriber? Never fear, here are three ideas for all budgets that can satisfy any enthusiast. From the Boat Gear Pavilion at our Boat Show, we selected the multifunction knife (a real must-have, not only in boating), boat shoes with non-slip soles, and then a “tech treat,” the system for making the windlass smart.
One tool, a thousand uses – Leatherman Charge +
Quality, warranty, and timely customer service are the strengths of the historic American multifunctional tool manufacturer Leatherman. Founded in 1983 by Tim Leatherman, the company is now one of the world’s largest manufacturers of multi-purpose tools that are practical and easy to use for solving all kinds of boating problems. The Charge+ is the tool equipped with essential tools for everyday use. Contains durable scissors, replaceable wire cutter, anti-corrosion steel knife, among others. Each tool can be opened and closed with one hand, locking in place for maximum safety. Has scabbard, 7-prong kit and pocket clip included and 25-year warranty.
What a sole! – U-Sail Wave
Despite being extremely durable and solid, U-Sail’s Wave shoe has a very low overall weight: just 269 grams, like a running shoe. Not to mention that the Wave’s minimal, understated look allows them to be worn even once off the boat. They are sneakers suitable for different situations, great to match with smart-casual clothing. What sets them apart, however, is the sole, which is truly unique: water runs off thanks to the groove and drainage holes, so the tread can keep the shoe firm and steady.
Windlass? Better if it is smart – System Innovation Group MFC-MK4.1
TheMFC-MK4.1 is the wireless system that allows you to control from a smartphone or tablet any winch or electric winch installed on board the boat. System Innovation Group, an Italian startup founded in 2020, directly followed all stages of the realization of this product, both from the hardware and Magic Fly Electronics proprietary software point of view. From the Magic Fly Connect app, it is so easy to control the operation of the system. The functions are all available in a single screen from which it is also possible to know how many users are connected and if necessary to disconnect them for security reasons.
