Classic Boats by Giornale
of Sailing
, fiberglass and mass-produced boats built since 1967 and with a minimum of 25 years on their backs, selected on the basis of very precise canons that transcend the age of the artifact and focus on its intrinsic historical value, starting with the overall design qualities and the originality of the boat in its context. We have identified 187 of them HERE (with boat sheet, measurements, year of design, market quotations) but the list is constantly being updated.
The three steps to enhance your Classic Boat
Well, is your boat a Classic Boat? Now we explain how to dignify Classic Boats by Journal of Sailing and increase their value. We have created a network of professionals dedicated to precisely this enhancement.
- The first mandatory step in enhancing the value of a historic Classic Boat by Giornale della Vela is appraisal. We have identified two “top” appraisers(Davide Zerbinati and Danilo Fabbroni) who can draw up a real Classic Boat certification and see the historical value of the boat recognized. Only by careful analysis of the state of the property and its maintenance over the years, as well as checking that the original design has not been distorted, can its value be certified.
- Insurance Is the indispensable second step after the appraisal. Today it is difficult for an insurance company to value a boat that is at least 25 years old for its true value. With our initiative and a proper appraisal provided by our recognized broker(David Insurance), the intrinsic value of the asset is also recognized by the insurance company. And if the appraisal certified the boat’s excellent condition–the prize might even be
- Buying and selling is the third step that required dedicated professionals: we involved one of Italy’s leading brokers(Abayachting) capable of transposing the real value of each of the current 187 selected boats, both in the case of selling and buying. It helps you sell it or buy it at the best price by selecting the best buyer or buyer, performing an assessment of the boat’s condition.
- Our “dream team” of appraisers, insurers and brokers can be contacted with a click directly from the boat tabs.

Classic Boats by Giornale delle Vela. DUFOUR 42 LACOSTE
Dufour; 12.85 x 3.96 m; 1985; Sparkman & Stephens
Signed by Sparkman & Stephens and produced in a limited series of just 12, the 42 Lacoste is the child of a peculiar experience, an elegant and fast boat born of the co-branding of two French giants, Dufour and Lacoste. It caused a stir at the time.

SWAN 44
Nautor Swan; 13.41 x 3.83 m; 1972; Sparkman & Stephens
In 1972 Sparkman & Stephens designed the Swan 44, one of their many signature designs for the Pietarsaari shipyard. But 44 is of a dough all its own. Elegant and marine, it goes as if it were on two tracks. Just look at the rankings of every regatta between S&S-signed Swans: he leads the way.

Classic Boats by Giornale delle Vela. MOANA 45
Moana; 13.80 x 4.04 m; 1982; Malingri
After the Malingri’s ocean experiences, divided between the Whitbread Round the World Race on the CS&RB and various Ostars, the Malingri’s are working on a hull that will adapt to lessons learned and long crossings. Moana was born, of which 45 is perhaps the most striking exponent. The rigging is all deliberately oversized, which, rightly, at sea you never know.

GRAND SOLEIL 45
Pardo Shipyard; 13.94 x 4.14 m; 1988; German Frers
As the 1980s came to a close, Cantiere del Pardo turned to Frers for the design of this 45-footer. An elegant, marine hull was born, capable of combining performance and comfort in the best possible way. The water lines only clean, streamlined, designing a boat that is pleasing both at the helm and to the eye.
