Big boats, medium boats, small boats…in our digital boat show (
Boat Show by Sailing Newspaper
) you can find boats for all tastes and sizes. In the larger boat segment there are three really interesting designs, and all very interesting from each other. They are Fountaine Pajot’s truly XXL catamaran, the New 80, and the two 128- and 80-foot monohulls by Nautor Swan and ICE Yachts. Here are what their characteristics are and how they will be made.
Superboats from 23 to 38 meters. Fountaine Pajot New 80 (23.90 x 11.09 m)
The Fountaine Pajot New 80 is anticipating a trend. Catamarans will in fact grow in size still further, competing with 24-meter monohulls but with the advantage of having at least 30 percent more space than their competitors. Just take the given width of m. 11.09 meters of the Fountaine Pajot New 80 and compare it with an 80-foot monohull, which has an average width of 6/6.50 meters, to realize that a catamaran is worth at least a 30-meter monohull in terms of footprint. The new Fountaine Pajot New 80 designed by Berrett Racoupeau, the La Rochelle studio headed by Olivier Racoupeau, has an overall length of 23.98 meters, a beam of 11.09 meters and a draft of 2.1 meters with a hard top and integrated superstructures with solar panels.
Swan 128 (38.98 x 8.65 m)
The first example of the Swan 128 is already under construction at the Pietarsaari (Finland) shipyard and will be launched in 2025. Naval architecture is by German Frers, as with all Swans since 1981, while Lucio Micheletti + Partners’ Micheletti Studio has been responsible for the deck and deckhouse shapes, evolving the style of his younger sister Swan 108. The interiors once again came from the pencil of architect Misa Poggi.
Superboats from 23 to 38 meters. ICE 80 (23.08 x 6.20 m)
From the cockpit benches, edged in solid teak, to the bollards built into the gunwale; from the light sockets on deck, to the cockpit table “carved” in carbon, to the most hidden details: everything about the new ICE 80 is part of a broad project that has seamanship, safety and maximum efficiency as its ultimate goal. Poche linee magistralmente tracciate rivelano il suo carattere da purosangue, docile e affidabile.
