For now. During Navigare, Neapolitan Boat Show, the first citizen Gaetano Manfredi exposed himself, thus, “The city deserves a concrete plan on ports and boating. We need to revitalize Mergellina … we plan to intervene on the ground part to redevelop an important area, but one that has critical issues. We are in favor of expanding the port of Mergellina and making other landing sites, and it needs to be done quickly…. As a municipality, we are in favor of implementing long-lasting, quality solutions that attract valuable tourism“.

Here, in addition to the redevelopment and rationalization of a myriad of small harbors and recreational moorings in the Gulf of Naples, is what the mayor of Naples is talking about: lengthening the Mergellina breakwater by 250 meters, using the rocks, and building 6 perpendicular floating docks of 100 linear meters each so as to obtain 1200 linear meters of berthing with the possibility of mooring 350-400 boats.
But there are other plans for Naples
But Mergellina’s is not the only redevelopment project that would make Naples one of the world’s most attractive yachting landings, as good as and better than Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Nice, Marseille. And how he is trying to realize Genoa.
Also lying in Mayor Manfredi’s municipal offices, for example, is the project for the redevelopment of the Monumental Port of Naples, which extends from the San Vincenzo Pier to the Old Immacolatella Pier and intervenes on the are between the port and the ancient city.
For Naples and for Italy, redeveloping and equipping the capital of Campania with a true Marina in the heart of the city is an opportunity, indeed a necessity. That until now has been disregarded.
