The Mets is among the most anticipated events for boating enthusiasts. Indeed, the accessories fair held every year in Amsterdam always gives away curious ideas and new products that amaze fans. And we have been wandering around the booths in the different pavilions again this year, looking for interesting products to tell you about. Some we tell you about here, others we will tell you more about within the upcoming issues of the Sailing Journal, such as the February double issue-the one containing our Accessories Special: the “bible” for outfitting, renovating and keeping your boat up to date.
Three lightning strikes from the Amsterdam Mets 2023
1 – The tender with the transparent plywood bottom.
Decktent is the Spanish company that set out to make these inflatable canopies. At the Mets, however, he launched a new product. It is called Formentera and it is a tender with the classic inflatable tube, but with a rigid transparent plywood dunnage! It can be purchased in different sizes, from 2 to 3.30 meters, for a maximum load capacity ranging from 290 kg of the smallest (which can be powered by a 2-hp outboard) to 540 of the largest, which is powered by a 15-hp engine. Included in the standard package, in addition to the dinghy, are a pair of oars, a seat, a foot inflator pump, and a repair kit.
2 – The hose that filters the water from the tank (without requiring power)
If you do not have room on board to install a water filter, a very common situation on older boats, for example, you can solve the problem of impure water with this simple accessory. Installing the Membraloop pipe between the tank joint and the existing pipe provides an effective water filter that does not require electricity. It lasts 10 years, needs to be cleaned only once a year, and takes advantage of ultrafiltration membranes placed inside along with water pressure.
3 – The ring that doesn’t line the deck
Those at the Italian company Easysea, after inventing the folding winch handle, have focused on developing a low-friction anti-shock ring that reduces noise and scratches on the deck. This is all thanks to the vibration-reducing aluminum construction and the double rubber protection, which in the next version will also light up in the dark making the ring visible at night. The special feature of the rubber coating is that there is no bonding, but the special milling of the aluminum creates a groove into which the rubber fits perfectly, with no possibility of spillage. Easysea’s ring is available in five different sizes, with diameters from 8 x 5 cm (extrasmall) to 38 x 28 cm (extralarge).
