Classic Boats by Giornale
of Sailing
, fiberglass and mass-produced boats built since 1967 and with a minimum of 25 years on their backs, selected on the basis of very precise canons that transcend the age of the artifact and focus on its intrinsic historical value, starting with the overall design qualities and the originality of the boat in its context. We have identified 175 HERE (with boat sheet, measurements, year of design, market quotations) but the list is constantly being updated.
The three steps to enhance your Classic Boat
Well, is your boat a Classic Boat? Now we explain how to dignify Classic Boats by Journal of Sailing and increase their value. We have created a network of professionals dedicated to precisely this enhancement.
- The first mandatory step in enhancing the value of a historic Classic Boat by Giornale della Vela is appraisal. We have identified two “top” appraisers(Davide Zerbinati and Danilo Fabbroni) who can draw up a real Classic Boat certification and see the historical value of the boat recognized. Only by careful analysis of the state of the property and its maintenance over the years, as well as checking that the original design has not been distorted, can its value be certified.
- Insurance Is the indispensable second step after the appraisal. Today it is difficult for an insurance company to value a boat that is at least 25 years old for its true value. With our initiative and a proper appraisal provided by our recognized broker(David Insurance), the intrinsic value of the asset is also recognized by the insurance company.
- Buying and selling is the third step that required dedicated professionals: we involved one of Italy’s leading brokers(Abayachting) capable of transposing the real value of each of the current 175 selected boats, both in the case of selling and buying. It helps you sell it or buy it at the best price by selecting the best buyer or buyer, performing an assessment of the boat’s condition.
- Our “dream team” of appraisers, insurers and brokers can be contacted with a click directly from the boat tabs.
5 Classic Boats by Giornale della Vela from 10 to 10.30 m (and how much they are worth)
And now we continue with introducing 5 Classic Boats by Giornale della Vela. Today we look at some iconic models from 10 to 10.3 meters.
Classic Boats. GLADIATEUR 33
Wauquiez; 10.01 x 3.35 m; 1986; Donald Pye (Holman & Pye)
Successor to the already popular Centurion, this 33-footer from Wauquiez also bears the signatures of Holman & Pye. Agile and safe, it was a successful boat, especially in France, where it figured as well in racing as in its role as a cruiser. 299 units built confirmed this.

Classic Boats. X-102
X-Yachts; 10.02 x 3.41 m; 1981; Niels Jeppesen
It is the Danish shipyard’s second model and, like the previous X-79, is signed by Jeppesen, which now designs a dynamic and fast cruiser-racer, but without forgetting interiors that can also be used for cruising. The project soon proved its worth, winning both the 81 Three Quarter Ton Cup and the 82 Three Quarter Ton Cup. Few beginnings are better.
DB-1
Dehler; 10.10 x 3.41 m; 1980; Van de Stadt
A highly successful Three Quarter Tonner, the DB-1 was one of the German shipyard’s great designs, an agile and fast boat that nevertheless did not disdain cruising, thus gaining strong acceptance even in the fast-cruiser market. The interior could be landed to lighten the hull for racing.
ALPA A34/ZUANELLI Z34
Alpa/Zuanelli; 10.11 x 3.20; 1977; Olin Stephens
From the Alpa shipyards comes, in 1977, a new 10-meter signed by Olin Stephens. It is a cruising hull strong with a generous interior, but water lines and temperament are those of a racing boat: gentle on the helm and well balanced, but snappy and demanding. It was built in 44 examples, later continued by Zuanelli as Z34.

Classic Boats. SOLEADA 34
CNP; 10.30 x 3.29 m; 1979; Scott Kaufmann
In 1979 Kaufmann’s Bozambo was Italian champion and winner of the Giraglia. CNP did not miss the opportunity and agreed to create a mass-produced version, adapted to fast cruiser. Thus was born the Soleada 34, a hull with a racing character but enriched in its interior and overall layout.
