Here we go. Now on our website you will find the new Classic Boat by Giornale della Vela section that contains listings augmented by the Historical Value of 175 fiberglass boats, built in series and at least 25 years old (period: 1967 to 1998).
175 Classic Boats that deserve to be worth more
These are 175 boats that are entitled to be considered special objects of value. You can find all sizes of them with current used price and revaluation derived from historical value. A beautiful “old” boat, regardless of size, is democratically just beautiful. And it deserves to be worth more. We particularly care about this new initiative of the Journal of Sailing for several reasons, we list them for you.
– It is not only vintage boats, built mainly of wood and in one piece, that have historical value. Boats built of multi-piece fiberglass that are at least 25 years old are also entitled to a reassessment of their value, relative to current second-hand market valuations.
– Clearly, not all historical fiberglass production boats are equal, just as classic cars are not all of equal value, given the same age and size. For this we have selected, so far, 175. But thanks to your reports they can grow in number. Mind you, they may not all, indiscriminately, be boats of “historic value.” The “historic” listing transcends the age of the craft built in multiple examples and focuses on historic value, due to its recognized aesthetic, technical, qualitative originality.
– We needed to put a practical spin on our initiative. So we chose a team of professionals in the field of appraisal, insurance and buying and selling who espoused the “Classic Boat by Journal of Sailing” project.
Classic Boats by Sail Newspaper expertise.
The appraisal is the first mandatory step in obtaining a true Classic Boat certification and seeing the historic value of the boat recognized. Only by careful analysis of the state of the property and its maintenance over the years, as well as checking that the original design has not been distorted, can its value be certified.
Insurance
– Insurance is the second indispensable step to give practical consistency to the “Classic Boat by Sail Newspaper” project. Today it is difficult for an insurance company to value a boat that is at least 25 years old for its true value. With our initiative and proper appraisal, the intrinsic value of the asset is also recognized by the insurance company.
The buying and selling
– Buying and selling is the third step needed to make the initiative a reality. We at the Giornale della Vela, again, have involved one of Italy’s leading brokers, who is able to transpose the real value of each of the current 175 selected boats, both when selling and buying. It helps you sell it or buy it at the best price by selecting the best buyer or buyer, performing an assessment of the boat’s condition.
To get to this new section of the Journal of Sailing website that we have just described to you, it comes about because in recent months we have been testing interest in Classic Boats. A success that generated a record amount of interest, with more than 2,000,000 views and more than 200 boats posted by owners on the“Your Classic Boats” bulletin board. A clear sign that the interest is there. Historic fiberglass boats over 25 years old deserve it.
