The Ecoracer OD 30 made its first sailing edges in Genoa pending the start of the development and tuning phase.

Giving a strong signal to the boating world with a view to sustainability. This is where ECO Yachts, the new “spin off” shipyard of
Northern Light Composites
, the laboratory that has given birth to some of the most interesting innovations in recent years in the Italian market. It was born here, for example, the
Ecoracer One Design 30
(9.15 meters), the first mass-produced recyclable one-design designed by Matteo Polli.

What the boats of the 100% eco-friendly shipyard will look like

ECO Yachts will be the first shipyard in the world to produce exclusively zero-impact boats, going to impact the environment as little as possible. The climate neutrality of the site will be certified by a third party, Climate Standard, following the methodologies described by the Green House Gas Protocol, ISO 14067 and PAS2060. After the latest model, theEcoracer One Design 30 launched at the Genoa Salon during the arrival of The Ocean Race, the second example of which is currently under construction, the fledgling shipyard will focus on building a new fast cruiser with an overall length of about 12 meters, again designed by Matteo Polli. It, too, will be made in Italy and also with rComposite, the recyclable composite material patented by Northern Light Composites (and used by ECO Yachts). The Italian company based in Monfalcone (GO) will not only use rComposite, but has made public data on emissions from the production of its 30-foot One Design, detailing its offset strategy and emissions reduction plan, with investments on specific, targeted projects. The entire process of generating the boat, from the sourcing of raw materials to the delivery of the boat to the end customer, will see all of its CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions offset.

Eco Yachts. Sustainable partners and…motor boats!

The partners with whom ECO Yachts works and will work will also be selected with a view to full sustainability. For example, the Italian companies One Sails, which supplies 4T Forte sails (the only recyclable ones in the world at the moment) and Breton, which, thanks to Genesi 3D printing, produces fully recyclable molds. The ECO Yachts design perspective is to facilitate the dismantling and recycling of the artifact at the end of its life: therefore, already during its creation, the boat is designed to be recycled tomorrow, to have a second life. But environmental friendliness also means fewer engine emissions, and so the yard’s boats are optimized to minimize meso and reduce engine use. Yes, motors, since during 2024 ECO Yachts will introduce its first line of motor yachts (electric-powered, of course). The new boats will also be designed to derive energy from various renewable sources, from sun to wind to water, through hydrogenation.

Fabio Bignolini, one of the founders of
Northern Light Composites
and thus of ECO Yachts, announced that the group has been selected in an acceleration pathway along with other startups that are committed to combating climate change.

“In the past few years, nlcomp has successfully developed and adopted recyclable composite materials, inspiring other brands in the nautical world that are beginning to approach technologies similar to ours. The next step we are taking allows us to ensure that the boats we produce have not had a negative impact on the environment. Launching a climate neutral product on the market is an important statement for us, just as for boat owners choosing a ‘carbon neutral boat is a great sign of caring for the environment.”
