The world of marinas in the Mediterranean, the world’s leading destination in the preferences of boaters, is in great turmoil. FollowingMarinedi’s announcement of its acquisition of the management of the port of Salina in the Aeolian Islands, D-Marin Group announced a partnership with Italy’s Azimut-Benetti. The result of the alliance will bring D-Marin, which owns and operates 20 ports in the Mediterranean, including Turkey, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, Spain, Italy and Malta, to include the Marina di Varazze in Liguria and the Porto Mediceo in Livorno (nearing completion) in its offerings. The Group is also present in the United Arab Emirates with four different facilities, Business Bay, Al Seef, Jaddaf WF and Marsa Al Arab.
The ports giant D-Marin
The most recent acquisition of the
D-Marin Group
in Italy besides the Marina in Varazze and the upcoming Porto Mediceo in Livorno, is the Punta Faro Marina in Lignano Sabbiadoro, near Venice. The Group has also expanded in Spain with three marinas along the Costa del Sol: Puerto Deportivo de Estepona, Puerto Marina La Duquesa, and Puerto Marina del Este. Finally, one must point out the presence in the Island of Malta with the Valletta Marina. A majority stake in D-Marin, which is headquartered in Greece, recently passed to the CVC Capital Partners fund, which acquired the Greek, Croatian, and UAE operations. Selling is the DoÄŸuÅŸ Group, one of Turkey’s leading conglomerates, which retains the management of ports in Turkey. The partnership between Azimut-Benetti and D-Marin will lead to further expansion of the Group’s port network, which aims to acquire new management and build new infrastructure in the coming years. The D-Marin project aims to consolidate and enlarge its position in the Mediterranean while continuing to preside over other areas such as the United Arab Emirates.
