Everything you need to know if you want to participate in the VELA Cup Sicily
Where and when?
The regatta will be held on Saturday, October 7 at the
Marina Capo d’Orlando
, opposite the beautiful Aeolian Islands and only two hours, by car or train, from Palermo.
If I come with my own boat is the mooring free?
Yes. Subject to availability, mooring is offered to all participants arriving from outside.
Can any boat participate?
Yes. The regatta is open to boats of all types, sizes and years, with no red tape or technical complications. No rating certificates or racing sails are needed.
I don’t feel like using the gennaker or spinnaker, does it make sense to participate?
At the VELA Cup, you don’t need to be a sailing champion to win. If you don’t feel like a committed racer, you can choose to participate in the “Cruising Boat” category, where only white sails are sailed, with a dedicated leaderboard.
I have a crew of experienced sailors, will we have fun too?
Of course! If you have the soul of a racer and a competitive crew, sign up in the “Sport Boat” category, you can use as many sails as you want(drifters, code 0s, gennakers, spinnakers, whippers, etc.).
What is the route like?
The course is coastal, starting in front of the Capo d’Orlando Marina, buoys at the Brolo Rock and the Capo d’Orlando Lighthouse and back. It is about 12 miles of sailing, with course reduction in case of low wind.
How do you sign up and how much does it cost?
Registration is already open and you can do it online at www.velacup.it or directly at Marina Capo d’Orlando starting Friday, October 6. The cost depends on the size of the boat but is from 110 euros.
Is it true that there are prizes and gadgets for everyone?
First, there is the gift bag, with the VELA Cup t-shit, a copy of the Sailing Newspaper, gadgets and coupons from our partners HiNelson, Plastimo, YachtIngBond, Garmin, Veneziani Yachting and Leatherman, for everyone. Then there are prizes for first place category winners, Classic Boats (boats at least 25 years old), most elegant boat, last place, etc. Finally, many raffle prizes offered by our partners.
Am I missing crew or a boat to participate?
If you are looking for boarding or missing crew, we can help you find them at www.mymatchrace.net. If, on the other hand, you want to rent a boat, the charter company Spartivento, which is based right at Marina Capo d’Orlando, is offering a 20 percent discount to all VELA Cup participants, which is in addition to the promotions and offers already in place.
To register for the VELA Cup Sicilia, all you need to do is
and finalize your registration by entering your and the boat’s details!
