The boat that so many have been waiting for is now a reality, Jeanneau has unveiled the first sailing photos of the new Sun Fast 30 One Design, the very sporty offshore racing and cruising boat built from a recyclable composite. A 9-meter (8.99 hull length, 10.24 with bowsprit) designed by the VPLP studio and built in collaboration with Multiplast, a shipyard specializing in ocean racers.

An environmentally sustainable 9-meter one-design boat, which is expected to cost less than 100,000 euros (we will find out the launch price at upcoming boat shows in late summer), and of which 26 hulls have already been ordered.

The boat is the result of a project initiated by three prestigious offshore sailing clubs (the Yacht Club de France, England’s Royal Ocean Racing Club and the U.S.-based Storm Trysail Club) and aims to To become a benchmark One Design class for offshore sailing, with an ambitious and international regatta program, aiming to encourage the discipline, make sailing more accessible and educate new generations.

Multiplast, in collaboration with VPLP Design studio, won the international call for proposals “Class 30: Let’s Build the Future.” We still do not know the measurements and data of the boat, which promises to be very interesting.

The boat, designed precisely by VPLP Design, benefits from a powerful and versatile modern hull (semi-hull) adapted for offshore sailing after intensive studies. Multiplast brought all of its cutting-edge experience to the conception of this one-design monohull, down to the smallest details, to provide a safe, well-equipped, and affordable vessel due to its ease of maintenance and limited budget.

Jeanneau and Multiplast, two excellences join forces

Multiplast brings its experience in the design and development of offshore racing boats on the one hand. On the other, he is in charge of relations with the clubs responsible for launching and animating the Class and racing program, as well as overseeing sales in support of the Jeanneau distribution network.

Jeanneau will physically produce the Sun Fast 30 One Design at its Cheviré shipyard near Nantes. In addition to its industrial capacity, Jeanneau provides all the services, warranties and technical support offered by its global organization and distribution network.

Sun Fast 30 One Design, eco and recyclable

Not only performance. In designing the Sun Fast 30 One Design, special attention was given to innovation and eco-design. The revolution in this project involves the use of Elium resin, a thermoplastic resin developed by France’s Arkema. This resin has the distinction of being composed of 20% recycled material, but also being recyclable. Therefore, it plays a role throughout the entire life cycle of the vessel.

First, it makes production waste recyclable. It also allows deconstruction and recycling of all composite parts due to fiber and matrix separation.

This resin has the same mechanical properties as a traditional resin. It allows construction with similar weight and maintains the performance and reliability of this new model.

This development is the result of more than 3 years of research and development within the Bénéteau Group to develop with Arkema an Elium resin grade suitable for boating (already tested, moreover, in the construction of the First 44). In addition, two engine options are offered, one with a conventional thermal inboard and one electric inboard with the same weight, with no impact on one-design performance.
