JPK 1010 Joy winner in IRC Overall of the Angelo Randazzo Trophy.

With the official results of the various rankings, the Palermo-Montecarlo 2023, organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, a regatta that proves to be never trivial, goes into the archives. Once again this year, in fact, the conditions encountered by the fleet were very technical: not the strong wind that has marked some of the last editions, but exhausting bonanzas and light breezes that were difficult to catch and made the regatta very long, especially for the youngest competitors.

Palermo – Monte Carlo 2023 – Black Jack leaves its mark

The Maxi 100 Black Jack

The Line Honours of the Palermo-Montecarlo regatta went to the Australian maxi Black Jack, by Peter Hamburg, with a time of 55 hours, 3 minutes and 6 seconds. The 30-meter maxi had New Zealander Brad Butterworth, a Kiwi sailing legend, at tactician, and has already won the Sydney-Hobart, 151 Mile and Rolex Giraglia in real time this year. The 30-meter Australian maxi 100 Black Jack, which won the Rolex Giraglia 2023 in real time, is a mythical boat, as it is the former Esimit Europa 2, formerly still known as Alfa Romeo 2. Those who have followed the history of offshore racing over the past 15 years know that these are names that have written important pages, because this maxi has a habit of winning.

Built in 2005 by the McConaghy shipyard to a Reichel/Pugh design, the 30-meter has literally dominated the international offshore racing scene. In 2009 he won the legendary Sydney-Hobart race and captured the Transpac Yacht Race record in 5 days and 14 hours.
