Check out the entries for the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda

There are still a few days left until the start of the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda, the last summer event of the most fun racing circuit ever! As announced, the big news at this year’s VELA Cup is the new Classic Boat category, for all those boats, including production and fiberglass boats, more than 25 years old.

The VELA Cup, however, is a regatta for everyone. You don’t need a set of racing sails to participate, just a mainsail and jib to enter in the Cruising Boat category, but, for those who are more sporty and want to use spi, gennaker and code 0, there is also the Sport Boat category.

Make way for Classic Boats…

Here they are, they are ripe, but don’t call them old, they are more than 25 years old and their owners keep them in great shape. Class of 1937, Vistona is a beautiful auric cutter built by Welsh shipyard Peter Dickie & Son, which belonged to a retired Royal Navy officer and a charter company in Cannes, then a training ship of the Centro Velico d’Altura and Venturieri sailing center in Chioggia, under the command of Duke Gian Marco Borea d’Olmo until 1967, today is owned by Giovanni Battista Borea d’Olmo, who finely restored it to its original splendor.

Also among the participants is a mythical boat, the Koala 50 that was owned by the Malingri family today by owner Roberto Manganaro, a 1972 heavy displacement ketch with a semi-long keel. A year younger, Ossanha, Franco Vigna’s Impala 35 was built by Cantiere Navale 71 in Castiglione della Pescaia to designs by Sparkman & Stephens, as was Iacopo Poli’s 1974 Impala 36.

And to the “younger” ones

Not only Classic at the VELA Cup, there are also modern and latest generation boats. Here at Cala dei Sardi we will see a brand new Grand Soleil 44, Lazy Dog, by Sergio Sagramoso, on the dock and in the sea. Newer boats will also include Nicola Minardi de Michetti’s Momi, a 2021 Momi 80, and Luca Locatelli’s Swan 45 Thetis, crewed by family and friends (Pietro Locatelli on mainsail, Paolo Scutellaro tactician, Giovanni Tenderini sheets, Stella Pinto pit strategy).

Charter a boat with NSS Charter and participate in the VELA Cup

On land, among English-style lawns and clear waters for swimming and sunbathing, Cala dei Sardi is a true oasis of relaxation surrounded by beaches. It is no coincidence that one of the leading charter companies, NSS Charter, with bases in Sardinia, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, the Aeolian Islands and the Caribbean, is based here. At the VELA Cup, in fact, you can participate with your own boat, look for a boarding with mymatchrace.net or rent one thanks to a dedicated agreement with NSS Charter. In addition, special prizes are planned just for the occasion for Lagoon catamarans, Bènèteau boats and the fastest charter boat.
