The world of motoring teaches us, a model that wins is not retired quickly, but if anything it is updated, improved. Danish shipyard X-Yachts reeds the X 4.9 MK2 “operation,” going on to revamp one of the key models in the Pure X line, the one dedicated to fast cruising.
The Mk1 version of X 4.9 was introduced in 2018 as the third model in the Pure X line. To date, more than 50 examples have been built and sold globally. Director of X-Yachts Design & Engineering, Thomas Mielec explains, “What we are developing now is a scaled-down version of the X5.6. The MK2 version is the natural evolution of the first model, from which we learned a lot. While from a stylistic point of view it retraces the design of X5.6 and X4.3 MK2. However, we have evolved the design again from these two models, especially in styling.
X4.9 MK2 – What changes

A new look with a modified hull, new rudder, lower overall weight, more luxurious interior, and improved performance. These in brief are the improvements made to the original model that, if they do not make it a completely new boat, do revamp it in important ways.
The special features of the new design, allow for a better position of the helmsman whether seated or standing, thanks to the increased handguards and larger toeboards. The new positioning of the winches ensures easier handling of maneuvers and improved comfort thanks in part to longer cockpit benches than before.
The S-Bow now characteristic of Pure X models and first introduced on X5.6, allows for a longer integrated bowsprit under which the stainless steel anchor nose is hidden, moving the anchor further away from the starboard bow. The longer bowsprit allows larger aft sails to be tacked for better performance at carrying gaits. The cockpit opening towards the stern has also been redesigned to achieve a more sporty and “open” look similar to that of X5.6
The official data sheet of the new version has not yet been released.
