The fleet of cabin cruisers and “flying” classes of the Navy’s signature sailing Giro d’Italia Nastro Rosa Tour 2023 lands in beautiful Portorož, a seaside town in Slovenian Istria. July 26-28 kicks off many regattas and shore events in the Regatta Village.
The Navy Pink Ribbon Tour 2023 with the Giro d’Italia a Vela is preparing to experience one of the most anticipated stages of this third edition. Indeed, it will be the beautiful scenery and lively atmosphere of Portorož, a pearl of the Mediterranean located in the heart in the Upper Adriatic in Slovenian Istria, that will be the setting for the 3 days of exciting racing scheduled between July 26 and 28.
Once again, therefore, that extraordinary promotion of sailing competitions, sports culture, qualified tourism and environmental protection that puts in place the Navy Pink Ribbon Tour 2023 is also staged at the adjacent borders of Italy. An event with many regattas, an innovative format and a spirit animated by a new “vision” for our country that finally puts the sea and boating in all its best expressions at the center. This is the great ambition of the organizers, namely Difesa Servizi S.p.A. in collaboration with Sailing Series International and with the support of Enit – National Tourism Agency, as well as the Italian Sailing Federation
Just like this grand sailing tour of Italy, which started June 29 from Genoa on the arrival of the prestigious Ocean Race, a round-the-world crewed race, and in conjunction with the departure of the Italian Navy training ship Amerigo Vespucci for its second round-the-world voyage. Now almost a month later comes this special appointment with an important city like Portorož that shares with the Navy Pink Ribbon Tour a love of the sea, racing and sailing tourism.
The whole spectacle of the Waszp, Wingfoil and the Bénéteau Figaro 3
The stage on Slovenian soil of the Giro d’Italia sailing race begins tomorrow Wednesday, July 26, with the first trials of the “flying” and most spectacular classes, namely Waszp and Wingfoil, small boats and sailboards, respectively, which thanks to special wing appendages under the hull are able to sail on the surface of the water at great speeds.
On Thursday, July 27, it is instead up to the regattas in the “inshore” categories to provide excitement and surprises for fans, as the city prepares to welcome the ten crews of Bénéteau Figaro 3 sailboats that will cross the finish line of the offshore leg linking two sides of the Adriatic from San Benedetto del Tronto to Portorož, for an offshore course of about 160 nautical miles.
A village on land all for enthusiasts
As early as Wednesday, July 26, the public and curious onlookers will be welcomed to the Regatta Village set up on the waterfront and within which they will be able to take advantage of rich program of events with DJset, street food, official award ceremonies and activities of the partners who collaborate in the conduct of the Navy Pink Ribbon Tour.
The Regatta Village itself will bid farewell to Portorož on Friday, July 28, when the offshore fleet will point its bows toward Venice, the last destination of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2023, the grand finale of which is scheduled for July 29 in Venice.
Italy and Slovenia, united in sailing and sea culture
There is great enthusiasm in these final stages of the Giro d’Italia a Vela 2023 in the words of the organizers. CEO of SSI Events, Riccardo Simoneschi, commented, “It is a pleasure for the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, all the staff and athletes to arrive in the Upper Adriatic on the Slovenian shore where Portorož has already made us feel a great welcome so we really look forward to matching our sailing philosophy with one of the European sailing capitals. We look forward to the citizens and the many tourists who flock to Portorož at this time in our Regatta Village, to let them experience the excitement of great sailing and share with us moments of fun and sociability.”
Recreation-related tourism is the future of the Mediterranean
Tourism related to sailing events such as Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour is booming and can mark the way for a strategic approach to this sector according to the Acting Director of the Portorož Tourist Board, Alexander Valentin: “I am delighted that the organizers of this exceptional sporting event have chosen Portorož as the first venue outside Italy. In addition, this regatta highlights the importance for our locality of sports-related tourism and the role of the sea as our largest “sports field.” The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour project also has extraordinary promotional value and will certainly help to further increase the visibility of our destination both among a target market such as Italy and among sailing enthusiasts. I would also like to thank the Municipality of Piran, the public company Okolje Piran and all the actors in our tourism chain for making it possible to hold this important regatta.”
Those who love sailing, the world of racing, this way of life and especially this “seafaring” view of the world cannot miss this beautiful event. We are waiting for you!
