Youth sailing is the main engine of our movement, the one that feeds it, and for this reason it can only be a great celebration of sailing the ongoing World O’pen Skiff in Rimini, which gathers as many as 289 young sailors. That’s right: 64 Under-17s, 164 U15s, 58 U12s, from 14 different countries. Numbers similar to those recorded in top Optimist regattas, and by the way, we will also tell you in other in-depth reports how the Azzurrini are doing at the Thessaloniki European Championships, another highlight of the youth sailing season.
Open Skiff – Youth phenomenon among Optimist and 420s

One of the successes in terms of numbers of the O’pen Skiff, formerly known as the O’pen Bic, is also to span awide age range. It covers practically from the Optimist age up to the 420 age group, with the cost of a single boat.
The O’pen Skiff also pleases because of the type of hull, 2.75 x 0.90 m long, simple in use, but still quite performant and modern. It has different sail surfaces, somewhat like ILCA, depending on the category: in the Under 17 version the mainsail is square top made of laminated material, the others are polyester. The sail plan, coupled with a hull that weighs 45 kilograms, allows the boat to be quite performant and to be able to plane in a stiff breeze.
O’pen Skiff – How the World Cup is going.

The World O’pen Skiff in Rimini will conclude on Friday, July 21, and already seven trials have been completed in light wind conditions over two days. Packed as expected with Italian sailors in all three categories, with ours doing well in the rankings.
Among the Under-17s, Italy’s Niccolo Giomarelli leads the standings, among the Under-15s it is Ukraine’s Yasnolobov Sviatodslav who sets the pace, while among the Under-12s Italy still leads with Corrado Dorrington.
