Sparkman & Stephens Swan Rendez-Vous
Sparkman & Stephens Swan Rendez-Vous returns.

After a two-year wait, one of the most glamorous and history-rich sailing events the Mediterranean has to offer is finally back, the Sparkman & Stephens Swan Rendezvous, organized by the Sparkman & Stephens Swan Association and, again this year, a guest in the Marciana Marina, on the island of Elba (June 28 to July 2). Now in its 10th year, and featuring nearly 50 of the most beautiful boats ever designed, the Rendezvous celebrates the genius of the New York studio in its collaboration with the Scandinavian Nautor Swan, which has been able to give us some of the greatest series designs in the past century.

Sparkman & Stephens Swan Rendez-Vous returns.

Dedicated this year to the memory of Lars Ström, the Rendezvous will offer not only race circuits, but also opportunities for conviviality and sharing, as well as the ever-present prizes, including one dedicated to the most elegant Swan S&S, as well as that to the best-kept boat. Among the boats present, many

, many of them of considerable historical value, an array of designs ranging from the “small” Swan 36 of 1967 (10.8 m), to the timeless Swan 65, designed in 1972 (19.8 m).

Sparkman &Stephens Swan Rendez-Vous – Classic Boat Participants

Among the more than 50 participants, the event will see a little bit of all the examples designed by the legendary firm, offering a glimpse not only at the great design skill of these, but an entire design era that is now perhaps unrepeatable. Among them, Classic Boat models of historical value by Giornale della Vela, featured are:

The Swan 43 is probably one of the most beautiful boats ever designed, an undisputed masterpiece of the masters. Produced in 67 examples, it is not the most iconic Swan, but it is the last of an era, the last Swan with a “deckhouse deckhouse,” last without the iconic Swan flush decks. With deep sterns, a gorgeous stern, and an abundant beam, if you love classic boats, you can only wish for her. Deck and stern are simply breathtaking.

The Swan yard’s sixth design, this was the first Swan in a long series to feature the unmistakable retractable deckhouse, an iconic trademark of each subsequent design. It was produced in 46 examples, all as elegant as few other boats.

Legendary boat, a myth destined to populate the sailing Olympus. Sleek and high-performing, the Swan 65 has an unbeatable pedigree, winning, in 1973, the first Whitbread Round the World Race, the round-the-world crewed race. Produced in no less than 41 examples, mainly ketch-rigged, she was yet another Sparkman & Stephens masterpiece, excellent not only in cruising but marine to such an extent that she could sail in all conditions.

Big forward leans, a narrow stern, and that deckhouse swiped in blue… With the Swan 38 we exemplify the more classic style that doesn’t mind a somewhat sacrificed interior, but instead seeks the style and performance that only a 1970s Swan can offer. Produced in 116 examples, it is one of the major S&S projects.

The quintessential Sparkman & Stephens signature Swan: unmistakable retractable deckhouse, narrow, almost ‘heart-shaped’ stern, elegance to spare. Undoubtedly one of the most elegant and marine boats of the second half of the 1970s. Produced in 70 examples, it is a jewel of Classic Boat.
