Time for racing between the buoys for Italy’s offshore ORC, which, after the season’s offshore regattas, meets again in Marina di Carrara for the Italian ORC Championship. There are 42 boats ready to take to the starting line from Thursday, June 28, to July 1, for four days of racing between the buoys.
Italian ORC Championship – The Favorites
The Italian Championship fleet is at a high level, with a larger presence in Group C (20 entries), 10 in Group B and 12 in Group A.
Scrolling through the entry list we find many names of well-known boats in Italian offshore, starting with the Swan 45, Blue Sky, Tengher and Ulika, which promise a very close battle in Group A. The boat that will be to be monitored is also an evergreen Mylius 14e55, Milu III, which has already proven in the past that it can make a “splash” as at the ORC World Championship in Porto Cervo in 2022.
Italian ORC Championship – Group B
Swans that are likely to be the boats to beat in Group B as well, with the Swan 42s Katarina, Morgan, Mela, Fantaghirò and Rachistar having a race within a race, with a challenge that first and foremost will be in real time, almost as if it were a one-design boat challenge. Beware also of possible surprises, such as the Lanmark 43 Skarp that can be very dangerous for the Swan 42 as well.
Italian ORC Championship – Group C
In Group C, the challenge for the final victory could be a toss-up between the two Corsa 915s, Sugar (from Estonian owner Ott Kikkas’ 11.98 multiple world champion team of the same name) and Davide Noli’s Farfallina 2. Be careful to exclude the Italia Yachts 11.98 from contention, with Scugnizza, Guardamago and Geex ready to have their say.
