We had told you recently how the 2023 from Italian brand Northern light Composites was vibrant, and after the collaboration with Thomas Tison for the Ecofoiler, it is now time to unveil the Ecoracer One Design 30.
The world’s first monotype built from recyclable materials and with rComposites technology , developed by Northern Light Composites, saw water in Genoa. The launching of Ecoracer OD 30 took place at the Ocean Live Park in The Ocean Race Grand Finale, at the opening of the village where the crewed round-the-world boats will be housed and where the new Ecoracer will remain throughout the event for the public who will be curious about the boat.
The launching is only the first step in this project: construction of hull number 2 is already ready to go.
Nlcomp’s Ecoracer OD 30
Nlcomp’s Ecoracer OD 30 is 9.15 meters long, excluding the dolphin boat, and 3.03 wide, Matteo Polli designed A hull that can glide easily without precluding the simplicity of running the boat, with an eye also to the ORC regulations of which Polli is a wizard. The rComposite® construction technology, which guarantees recycling at the end of the boat’s life, is this time in its performance version: a thermoplastic matrix combined with the lightness of carbon fibers for the hull, while the cockpit was made using flax fiber.
Ecoracer OD 30, research that starts from afar
The boat is the result of research that Northern Light Composites has been carrying out since 2020 and began with the award-winning Ecoracer 25, Italian Minialtura Champion 2022 and awarded at major European boat shows such as METS, BOOT Dusseldorf and the Genoa Boat Show.
Ecoracer30 is one of the winning projects of the Genoa Blue District’s Call For Innovation, a call for proposals that selected a series of innovative projects related to the blue economy that will be presented in the Innovation Village spaces during The Ocean Race Grand Finale in Genoa. The partners of the Ecoracer project are. Sangiorgio Marine and Magnani Yachts, which were responsible for making the components and assembling the boat between Genoa and Fano.
Fabio Bignolini, CEO Nlcomp: “Truly a great thrill to launch our first production boat-the first in the world with these recyclability features-here in Genoa as part of such an important event as The Ocean Race. I want to thank the whole team that has worked on this project, starting with Magnani Yachts and Sangiorgio Marine who took care of the shipyard activities, and moving on from the design team with Matteo Polli, Paolo Dassi and Roberto Baraccani to the guys who have been working day and night over the last few days here in Genoa.”
Ecoardo Bianchi, CEO Sangiorgio Marine: “We are happy to have supported Northern Light Composites in the creation of Ecoracer30: a boat that is absolutely innovative in terms of the materials it uses, particularly linen, but also in terms of design. Ecoracer30 summarizes the idea of technology, performance and sustainability that drives our shipyard.”
