Always a favorite destination for Italian sailors, Croatia is even easier to visit by boat: as of January 1, 2023, it entered the Schengen area (abolishing border controls) and adopted the Euro as its currency.
Croatia, now is the right time
Someone once referred to the sea of Croatia as a Sailor’s Paradise, and those who are familiar with the Adriatic country’s great marine and coastal development know that this is not a statement so far from the truth. A full 6,278 kilometers long, Croatia ‘s magical coastline in fact also includes 1,244 islands, islets, reefs and cliffs that transform sailing in this part of the Adriatic Sea into living inside an endless amusement park.
Whole days spent at the helm, or relaxing in the cockpit, searching for the most hidden cove and the sunniest beach, are a must for those who enjoy boating vacations. Especially in the summer, when the climate, already naturally mild along Croatia’s sea shores, is a real invitation to dive into the magnificent sea that is almost everywhere spotlessly clean and unspoiled.
Croatia – In the blue of the bluest bays
Suffice it to say that most of the Croatian beaches and coastlines are decorated with the “Blue Flag,” precisely confirming the quality of the sea, safety and service. As many as 97.96 percent of the 884 beaches surveyed were proclaimed ideal for bathing. Spending part of one’s vacation in the uninhabited coves of the Croatian Adriatic means being able to be in direct contact with the primeval beauty of the thousands of islands and the very long and rugged coastline.
Dropping anchor in the same places where, even millennia ago, the boats of the Illyrians or the galleys of the ancient Romans were tied up. But that’s not all: in fact, to meet all the main and important needs of Italian boaters, today most of the sheltered coves on the Croatian coast are equipped with mooring buoys, which not only provide safe and quiet nights of docking but also protect the seabed. Thus even the national parks of Kornati and Krka, pearls of Croatian tourism, are easily accessible to boaters thanks to rules adapted to the needs of nautical tourism.

In addition to this, of course, Croatia also provides Italian tourists who sail to it each summer with a dense network of state-of-the-art tourist marinas – found, for example, on the beloved and fun-filled islands of Hvar, Vis and Brač – within which there are not only numerous berths with all dockside amenities, but also state-of-the-art storage and maintenance services, galley replenishment, and solutions for all budgets for dining or shopping ashore.
And as of January 1 this year, there is a big and welcome news for those who choose the Croatia for his boating vacation-that day, in fact, the country entered the Schengen area of the European Union, and as a result, checks on people at borders with other European member countries were lifted. It is really easier today to reach this paradise that is already so close….
