Time for big offshore, time for Rolex Giraglia, the historic regatta that celebrates its first 70 years in this 2023 edition. With the prologue from San Remo to Saint Tropez, in which 60 boats took part, the week of regattas of the event organized by the Yacht Club Italiano in collaboration with Yacht Club San Remo officially began.
Rolex Giraglia 2023 – The Program
Coastal racing, which will be part of the overall Rolex Giraglia standings, began today in Saint Tropez: three days between buoys for maxi categories, on coastal courses for all other classes. Instead, on Wednesday, June 14, it will be time for the offshore race, which after the start from Saint Tropez will run on the classic La Formigue-Giraglia-Genoa route, a total of 240 miles.
The prologue from San Remo to Saint Tropez for the ORC class was won by Paolo Bonomo’s Canard 41 Aurora, followed by Adelio Frixione’s X-35 Imxertinente and the Italian Yacht Club’s Proto Elo II led by Mauro Pelaschier. In IRC victory for Horatio, Massimiliano Rizzo’s X41, second Morpheus, Steven Verstraete’s Sydney GTS 43, third Neojivaro, Yves Grosjean’s NEO 430 Roma.
For the 240-mile offshore race, overall victory will be awarded by IRC ranking, but an award is also provided for ORC-stabilized boats. Still uncertain is the weather forecast for the long run, but there seems to be a chance to see light wind conditions under anticyclone conditions.
