Sailor of the Year 2023
Sailor of the Year 2023, some of the protagonists nominated.

As many as 11,140 votes were cast by the public in just four days for the Sailing Newspaper’s Sailor of the Year, with real-time rankings emerging. A public success that packsrms the goodness of the new formula, where readers have an increasingly active part in choosing the finalists from the shortlist.

The trend of the rankings.

From the very beginning in the various categories in the competition, certain trends have emerged, and these are being confirmed even in these hours.

In the category The Sailor of the Year there is a trio firmly in the lead Ambrogio Beccaria and Alberto Bona are certainly not two surprises but the two sailors who are making us dream on Class 40s. But also in the top 3 is Cecilia Zorzi, currently second, the sailor who won the World and European Double-handed Mixed offshore Championships with the Figaro 3.

In the Passion category, it is raining votes for content creator/influencer Emalloru, which has already surpassed 3,000. Also watch out for Alessio Campriani, the Umbrian sailor who crossed the Atlantic in a 5-meter boat, and Franco Deganuti and Manuel Vlacich. These two “fools” entered the Guinness World Record for participating with the Melges 24 The Italian Job in the same year in the world’s most attended regattas: Bol d’Or, Round the Island, Barcolana.

Head to head in the Young category, the junior category, for Ginevra Caracciolo (ILCA 4F World Champion) and Nicolò Cassita (ILCA 4 World Champion). Men’s vs. women’s laser! How will it turn out? But watch out, watch out for Arthur Brighenti (European Optimist runner-up) and Mattia Cesana, who was crowned ILCA 6 Youth World Champion (formerly Laser Radial) for the second time.

It’s raining endorsements

Braving stormy seas and raging winds, our hero of the seas Ambrose Beccaria, a sailor without equal, stands out. Ambrose was able to combine instinct, skill, preparation and daring by completing epic races.Ambrose danced among the endless seas of the ocean and was able to achieve fantastic results that restored Italian seafaring to its place in the world. His past exploits will forever remain etched in our minds and hearts, and we wish the camelback to give himself and us many more beautiful emotions.Come on Bogi, hero of the seas, may your future endeavors still bring us much joy and may your legend inspire others to sail the oceans of life with confidence and indomitable passion.Marco Postpischl

Vo I am Alessio Campriani’s Mom and who else I could vote for regardless of affection I would have voted for him anyway for the ‘impossible’ feat on a home built boat of only 5 meters. Best wishes AlessioYvonne Bugmann

I hereby nominate Cassitta Nicolò Sailor of the Year.Best RegardsFabio Papaccio

My vote for the Sailor of the Year Passion category goes to the Deganutti/Vlacich couple for best original idea! Kicca Mathion Tuniz

My preference went to Campriani for the originality of the choice of boat and the modifications implemented, for the determination shown in overcoming technical and personal difficulties, all seasoned with a foot not exactly ” marine ” but “Umbrian.” Stephen Picotti

Low profile Turin-style, great sailor on the water! I very much hope that Alberto Bona will win the Sailor of the Year. He deserves it for the way he is never over the top! Great Alberto!Giovanna Guardani

Kindest,I vote for Ambrose Beccaria, young and very talented!Thank you,Marta Jarach

Emanuele (Emalloru) is the greatest sailor I know, he is wise in his choices, cautious in his routes and above all in adventures he always manages to let his experience prevail. He is a very good manager, always managing to keep calm. His partner Eros is a true expert, calm and placid. He deserves to win !!!Michael

I appeal to the purists, EMA could be the bridge between your “world” and ours, made by people like me who live in the hinterland who have always dreamed of wanting to sail. Objectively through his way of telling his story, he reawakened in methis passion of mine that I had now set aside during my course of study/work. I will certainly explore this topic with someone more knowledgeable, but the most important thing Emalloru has communicated to us is that all things considered (perhaps with extra difficulty) I will one day be able to sleep under the stars aboard my sailboat. John

We remind you that you have two chances to send in your endorsement by June 14:

  • By writing an email (signed) with reasons why you should win Sailor of the Year to speciali@panamaeditore.it
  • Filming a selfie-style video in which you express endorsement and motivation, posting it on Instagram tagging @jornaledellavela and with the hashtags #velistadellanno or #velistadellanno2023
  • The top 7 endorsements, chosen by the Journal of Sailing jury, will be rewarded with two Garmin quatix 7 sailing smartwatches and five state-of-the-art Garmin InReach two-way satellite receivers.

Please note: we will not necessarily choose the endorsements of the candidates who turn out to be winners, or even just the 60 candidates in the race. You can speak out for whomever you want: it will be the manner and transport with which you do so that will make the difference!
