Last May 23, the 3rd edition of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, a prestigious event with many regattas and a new “vision” for our country, was presented in the capital at the headquarters of the Navy Officers’ Club “Caio Duilio.
At the center of the Mediterranean Sea and with more than 8,000 kilometers of coastline, Italy inherits from the sea its roots, its millennial history that has transformed it from the “cradle of civilization” into a major player in the world geopolitical and economic scenario. However, on the issue of maritime, our country can also play the future by investing in the so-called “Blue Economy,” a sustainable economic system based on technological innovation, industrial know-how, and design, but also on tourism, the coasts, and the landscape, which have always been strong points of our “Made in Italy.”
And in this process sailing, boating, and the culture of going to sea, with their intrinsic values of knowledge, loyalty, environmental sustainability, team spirit, and the desire to go beyond one’s limits, can be absolutely strategic components in building this new “vision” of Italy.
In a major sailing event the new “vision” of Italy
The Italian Navy is convinced of this, and in this 2023 it returns to propose an event that focuses on the sea and navigation as a starting point for the revitalization of the country system. It is the Nastro Rosa Tour, a prestigious regatta circuit organized by Defense Services and Sailing Series International in cooperation with Enit – National Tourism Agency and recognized by major international sailing institutions. The event, now in its third year, was presented on May 23 in Rome at the headquarters of the Navy Officers’ Circle “Caio Duilio.”
The “highlight” event of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour is the Giro d’Italia Sailing Tour, which runs from June 30 to July 29. It is a series of regattas that, from Genoa to Venice, circumnavigates our entire peninsula in eight legs and engages the best crews in three different disciplines: Offshore, i.e., offshore racing; Inshore, i.e., trials between buoys under the coast; and Board, i.e., sailing boards. The sailing craft used are thus the synthesis of these 3 worlds: the very fast Figaro Class 3s equipped with foils, the Waszp acrobatic dinghies, and the WingFoiling class. At each stop, Sailing Villages will be set up in the most beautiful coastal locations where the public can watch challenges on the water and get closer to the world of sailing through initiatives and experiences open to all.
Sailing expression of human values and tourism possibilities
“With the Nastro Rosa Tour, the Navy aims to spread through sailing, which we consider to be the highest expression of the bond between man and the sea, some of our values linked to the seafaring tradition: loyalty, courage, leadership and spirit of sacrifice,” said Navy Undersecretary Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto.
But the Nastro Rosa Tour has over the years also become an effective tool for increasing growth in the tourism sector. “The event is a container for conveying many other projects with a cultural, tourist and social profile, such as the project for the enhancement of lighthouses,” explained Defense Services CEO Luca Andreoli, “The Tour of Italy sailing tour is the unifying element of this route. The routes will become paths to touch these points of historical and scenic splendor. In addition, each boat in the race will bear the name of a lighthouse being enhanced by the Company.”
“Tourism has changed,” Sandro Pappalardo, Board Member of Enit, recalled during the presentation, “Today it is not only visits to cities of art, but people want to live an experience, and this made us fall in love with the Navy Pink Ribbon Tour.
Simoneschi: “The departure from Genoa will be a spectacle.”
Organizing the format of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour is Riccardo Simoneschi, president of SSI, who during the presentation in Rome spoke about how central the theme of the environment, linked to sports and the sea, has become: “We want each edition to be an evolved and improved version of the previous ones, and in view of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2023 we have joined even more efforts in an attempt to raise the bar even higher. It is certain that the departure from Genoa will be unforgettable, as we are working on a great event together with the highest institutions of state and sport. From the competitive point of view, we have strong international participation not only in the Nastro Rosa Tour, but also in all other brand events, starting with the Navy Nastro Rosa Veloce: further proof that the road taken is the right one.”
In short, the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2023 and the Giro d’Italia sailing tour are shaping up to be great events where racing, fun and passion for the sea are intertwined with many strategic issues for our country. Selections to participate have already begun. Don’t miss your chance to get on board!
