After an uphill start to the season, the Flying Windsurfing Azzurri are back on top: Nicolò Renna wins the iQFOiL European Championship and Manolo Modena is third U21. European title that enriches the Italian team’s palmares, following Marta Maggetti’s World 2022 success. Next up is the Marseille Test Event in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Nicolò Renna is a gold medalist at the iQFOiL European Championship.
A son of art, his father Vasco Renna runs one of the most famous windsurfing schools in the world, Nicolò was born and raised on the board. Class of 2001, he joined the State Police Golden Flames group last year. After winning silver at the European iQFOiL Championship in 2022 and gold at the Mediterranean Games, he won the title of European Champion in Patras, Greece, this year. A result that confirms the technical skills of the young talent from Trentino, who grew up at Circolo Surf Torbole and won gold at the U21 World Championship in France back in 2021.
Nicolò Renna, by virtue of the tenth-place ranking he had accrued during the week, had an excellent quarterfinal, finishing the event second, as well as the hard-fought semifinal. In the finals with a sure medal, Renna dominated the event, crossing the finish line first in confidence. “The European title won today is one of the strong signals we were waiting for in windsurfing after an uphill start to the season. Of course, there are still several points to be settled, but now is the time to rejoice. Beyond everything, Nicoló Renna’s was a crisp performance of character and maturity today, chapeau!” are the words of DT Michele Marchesini.
Excellent third place Under 21 for Manolo Modena who embellished the day with a very prestigious and perspective result; after a week of great sacrifice came the right crowning achievement of a high level European Championship.
