Drinking water on a boat
Drinking water from the boat tap: how to do it?

In boating, it is one of the most popular accessories, especially for people buying a used boat from several years ago, who probably do not have one installed. We are talking about the watermaker, a very useful and practical tool that can be installed aboard any boat, large or small. But how does it really work? Is the water treated by the desalinator potable?

Can the water produced by the desalinator be drunk?

Accomplice also to the different models available-such as the Osmosea range that goes from an hourly output of 25 liters to one of 3,000 liters-having a watermaker on board has become simple even for those with small boats. They are products that do not require excessive space for installation and have increasingly low weight and energy consumption. But can the fresh water produced by the desalinator be drunk? This is the question that Osmosea technicians have been hearing more and more frequently. Indeed, in recent years, aided by various causes, the consumption of mineral water in traditional plastic bottles has declined. On the one hand, there is the ever-present problem of weight and stowage on board: having a case of water means having about 10 kg of ballast and a not inconsiderable bulk. On the other hand, there is the increasing use of reusable water bottles and flasks, which can be refilled several times. This solution eliminates the use of polluting plastic bottles, which unfortunately, still too often, float in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Back to the question, is the water produced by the desalinator drinkable? The answer is yes, but there is a catch. The water treated by the desalinator is drinkable, but it is contact with the tank, a receptacle for dirt and germs, that pollutes it.

How to purify tank water?

In response to growing demand, Osmosea has come up with a new product to meet the needs of those who want to have drinking water directly from the tap. It is the
Purificator 300 Led
, a desalinator-produced water treatment system that goes into intelligent action depending on usage. This means, for example, that the LED UV-C lamp (which already consumes less than a conventional UV-C lamp) is activated only when the faucet is opened. What’s more, in addition to consuming less (8.5 watts, only when activated) it has a ten-year lifespan.

In addition to the disinfectant lamp, the Osmosea purifier also works with a sediment filter and an activated carbon filter to remove bad odors and tastes from tank water. In addition, an additional filter pass allows for water with alkaline pH and remineralized with Calcium and Magnesium. The system has a flow rate of 2.5 liters per minute, is sold as a kit with piping, fittings and over-sink faucet, and is very easy to install. The power supply of the purifier is 12/24 volts DC voltage and 230 volts AC voltage. The combined installation of an Osmsoea desalinator and the
Purificator 300 Led
allows for fresh, potable water directly from the tap.
