RAN 630

Hard conditions at RAN 630 2023Offshore regattas such as the
RAN 630, the Naval Academy Regatta.
, have one rule: first goal, get to the finish line. When it comes to a trial of this length, 630 miles in fact, it is not only the speed of the boat that counts but also the ability of the crew to know how to deal with bad weather and, if necessary, also know how to say stop at the right time. That’s why, in an extremely tough edition of the RAN 630, which was marked this year by strong mistral winds, it was the crews who showed stoic endurance in these conditions that came out on top to the finish line.

RAN 630 – Lunatika the “toughest” one

Lunatika

Lunatika, Sunfast 3600, led in doubles by Guido Baroni and Alessandro Miglietti won the Line Honours – the first in real time – of the sixth edition of the
RAN
630 with a total time of 4 days, 13 hours 54 minutes and 54 seconds.

Next, just 27 minutes behind at 1:21 a.m., crossed the finish line on Gherardo Maviglia’s Jeanneau 49 Amapola II, the first fully crewed yacht, while the third to arrive in Livorno was the First 47.7 Audace, which arrived at 2:04 p.m., led in doubles by Beppe Agliardi and Pasquale Volpi.

Lunatika and her crew in doubles took the lead of the fleet as early as a few miles after the start of this edition marked by a particularly intense Mistral, but they were always tailed by Amapola II, which gave her a lot of trouble, almost foreshadowing an overtaking in sight of the finish line. Aboard Lunatika, they led a race that was not only perfect, but in addition they were able to maintain lucidity, maneuvering to stay in cover of Amapola II at all times, in a sort of offshore match race.

For the Double Handed crew formed by Guido Baroni and Alessandro Miglietti. it is a complete triumph, as they have won everything: the One Ocean Trophy and the Land of the Sirens Trophy for the first boat at the Porto Cervo and Capri gates respectively, from this year positioned in front of the Faraglioni; the Naval Academy Challenge Trophy for the first yacht on corrected time in the largest class (ORC in this edition); first place Double Handed in both ORC and IRC; first place ORC B and first place IRC.
