Histria, designed by Ron Holland

Do you have a Classic Boat, a boat of historical value built between 1967 and 1998, and therefore more than 25 years old? Perfect, this news is especially for you. The Journal of Sailing has launched a campaign to celebrate and highlight so many of these great boats, milestones of the Golden Age of sailing and boating as we know it today. And your boat, too, can now have the recognition it deserves and acquire the value it deserves.

Tell us about your Classic Boat!

Not only did we create a Poster on Classic Boats (HERE) where we explain well what these historically valuable boats are, but we have also defined 100 of these Classic Boats to be considered as memorable, 100 cult boats that, over time and with your suggestions, will become more and more. Now, however, is the time to also celebrate the individual boat and not just the project. We have created for you an online archive of your Classic Boats in which you can enter your boat and its history and browse through many others like a great encyclopedia of sailing history. Here’s how it works.

Your Classic Boats – Requirements

Let’s start with the basic requirements. As we have already told you in the Classic Boat Manifesto, for production boats the design must be at least 25 years old (1967-1998) and made of fiberglass. Of course, signature and yard also matter, because not all boats are the same. For One-Off projects, on the other hand, the age factor does not change, but it must still be a relevant project, signed by a great master and built with quality. The standard on fiberglass is dropped, expanding the range to materials allowed under the IOR (International Offshore Rule). That said, the rest is dead simple.

What is needed?

  • Boat Name and Model;
  • Type – Indicate whether it is a series project or a One off;
  • A detailed description of the boat;
  • One or more photos;
  • Shipbuilder, year of launching, overall length and maximum beam;
  • Your email and a call sign.
