On Saturday, May 27, the VELA Cup Toscana, the first stage of the circuit of regattas open to all boats and sailors (sports and non-sports), takes place in Marina Cala de’ Medici. The great sailing festival starts again from the Land of the Etruscans, between Castiglioncello and Rosignano, where the VELAFestival will also be held May 26-28. Here’s why you shouldn’t miss it!

All the stages of the VELA Cup 2023

There are prizes for almost everyone at the VELA Cup!

Big news at this year’s event is the new “Classic Boat” class. In addition to the usual division into Sport Boat categories, for the more sporty who want to use spi, gennaker or code 0, and Cruising Boat, for those who want to have fun with family or friends and sail white sails, from this year we will be drafting a separate ranking for classic boats, more than 25 years old, even if mass-built or made of fiberglass.

At the VELA Cup if your boat is over 25 years old, it will also be entered in the special Classic Boats category

As always, you do not have to be a sailing champion to participate, nor do you have to have a planing hull or carbon sails, the VELA Cup is for everyone. For by now you know, you don’t just win at sea, but also if you have a little luck, thanks to the many raffle prizes offered by partners Garmin, Veneziani, Leatherman, Plastimo, HiNelson and YachtingBond.

VELAFestival returns to Cala de’ Medici

At the Tuscany race, the party is not only at sea. On the docks and in the village of Marina Cala de’ Medici, from Friday, May 26, to Sunday, May 28, leading boating operators will present their products and be on hand to explain and illustrate their latest innovations at the VELAFestival. Alongside them also many excellences and typical local products, because this long weekend in May (from 26 to 28), made of sailing, relaxation and lots of fun, is to be spent both family and friends.

The course of the VELA Cup Tuscany

A triangle course , starting in front of Cala de’ Medici Marina, between Castiglioncello and Rosignano. Windward buoy offshore and then tack and head for the shoals of Vada, a perfect place to (on Sundays) stop for a swim! Coastal side toward Quercianella, cutting through Quercetano Bay, Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea with its unique sunsets among nature, crystal clear waters and beaches enclosed by cliffs. Arriving at the third buoy, positioned off the coast of Quercianella, we sail up to the first buoy in front of Cala de’ Medici Marina. The finish is at the stern on the same line as the start. The course will be about 12 miles (with course reduction in case of low wind to allow everyone to finish the race).
