Aluminum boat lovers read here. Do you remember theOVNI 400, which we told you about some time ago? It now becomes OVNI 430 (12.90 x 4.36 m). Same boat, different name? Absolutely not. The upgrade of the model produced by the French shipyard Alubat (famous for its ultra-durable, marine boats that are the dream of “liveaboard” sailors and globetrotters) is articulate and makes the OVNI 430 much more than just a 2.0 version.

OVNI 430, what changes in the hull?

Meanwhile, the weight. The construction technique has changed, and – building on what had already happened on the entry-level OVNI 370 range – this has resulted in significant weight savings. The bottom of the hull, which has been moved toward the bow to improve the boat’s performance, is 10 mm aluminum, while the sides are 8 mm. An additional edge has been added on the hull, to make it more curved and smooth, less flat. The centreboard is now totally retractable, inside the hull, so as to reduce hydrodynamic drag, and finally the two rudder blades (standard) are angled outward.

A new edge was added to the fairing to make it more curved and softer, less flat.

Small, big improvements

Without upsetting the original design, OVNI 430 improves on it, meeting the demands of owners. The interior has a deck saloon configuration, along the lines of its smaller sibling OVNI 370, with a raised dinette to make the most of the panoramic deckhouse. In the standard version, there is a master cabin in the bow and a double cabin in the stern, with a single central bathroom. If desired, a second aft cabin can be requested in place of a utility room.

Again taking a cue from the OVNI 370, Alubat replaced the tambour with a watertight door that can be tilted to 3 positions. Inside the cockpit are new hatches that provide access to the aft lockers, and the life raft locker has been enlarged. Finally, the mainsail sheet hoists were moved to the deckhouse from the rigid sprayhood, lowering the boom and increasing sail area.
