July 2-28 is the Giro d’Italia a Vela, the highlight event of the Nastro Rosa Tour 2023 divided into eight stages from Genoa to Venice. An unmissable opportunity to explore our coastline and some of the most scenic places in the Mediterranean.
Italy is at the center of the Mediterranean and in its approximately 8,000 kilometers of coastline offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Dreamy beaches, sheer cliffs that are home to churches, lighthouses and ancient fortresses, and then more colorful villages and seaside towns with centuries of history. Not to mention the islands, true gems of nature, history and tradition. There is no better way to explore these treasures than aboard a sailboat with family or friends, in total relaxation, taking your time and putting your bow to the horizon in complete freedom.
There is, however, another equally rewarding way to sail along the coasts of the Belpaese and that is to participate in long regattas that circle us far and wide. Events where the taste of the landscape combines with the adrenaline of the challenge and where the desire to win goes hand in hand with the desire to be together and share the passion for the sea. So why not take part in an event that among its objectives is precisely to raise awareness of our coastal territory, its elegant and sublime landscapes, coastlines and islands that serve as the backdrop for an all-sports adventure?
Sailing among the beauties of our country
The occasion could be the Navy Nastro Rosa Tour, a prestigious offshore racing circuit organized by Sailing Series International and now in its third year. Once again this year, among the various offshore races on the schedule is the Giro d’Italia a Vela, for which selections for women’s, men’s or mixed double crews have already begun. The circumnavigation is divided into 8 stages that will touch the most iconic locations in our country and features the very fast Figaro Class 3s equipped with foils alongside the strongest riders in the WingFoiling class, as well as the acrobatic Waszp dinghies.
Selections for the Giro d’Italia 2023 are now open
The Tour of Italy by Sail will start on June 30 from Genoa, the city of the “Lantern” with a large regatta village set up right next to this symbol that towers 117 meters above sea level to celebrate an event within an event, namely the arrival of teams returning from The Ocean Race around the world. After that, the festive Giro d’Italia sailing fleet will land July 4-6 in another Mediterranean dream location: theLa Maddalena Archipelago in all its majesty of turquoise waters, granite rocks and pristine islands. After so much beauty, we depart to land on July 9 in another irresistible destination: the poignant Naples, with its Gulf at the foot of Mount Vesuvius and its marvelous islands. Then still heading ever south and after about 170 miles will disembark onJuly 11 in Vibo Valentia, Calabria, with its overhanging creeks and cliffs that allows one of the region’s most beautiful views.
From the Tyrrhenian to the Adriatic among islands, bays and seaside villages
At this point the sea is changed from the Tyrrhenian to the Ionian. There is the Gulf of Taranto to host the fourth stage of the Giro d’Italia from July 16 to 18. But it doesn’t end there. Time to move up the eastern side of the boot with another Apulian stop in the incredible scenery of Vieste and the green Gargano promontory(July 19-22). And then more sailing until reaching another of the Adriatic’s most famous locations on July 25.
The big Giro d’Italia Sailing Festival will conclude on July 28 in Portorož, another splendid glimpse of the Belpaese, near Venice, that tastes of lagoons, canals and ancient naval traditions.
In short, there is no event in this 2023 that is more beautiful and full of beauty than the Giro d’Italia scheduled in the Nastro Rosa Tour. You sail nearly 1,500 miles all in one breath, but because you are propelled only by the wind pushing on the sails there is plenty of time to enjoy every moment of this all-Mediterranean voyage.
