The Salon International du Multicoque, the world’s most famous multihull show, is being held these days, April 12-16, in La Grande-Motte, in southern France near Montpellier. Due to their qualities of stability, comfort in sailing, and large spaces, catamarans are now no longer primarily aimed at the charter market but are also “converting” an increasing number of private owners. Let’s take a look together at what’s new and some “out of the box” models on display at the show.
What’s new in La Grande Motte
Outremer 52 – 15.73 m – Light as a Gunboat
Unveiled as a world premiere in La Grande Motte, this long-cruising catamaran bears the signature of the VPLP studio, one of the leading interpreters of modern ship design, especially for ocean-going boats. Borrowing technological solutions developed by the Gunboat shipyard (also part of the Grand Large Yachting Group), Outremer managed to reduce the weight of the structure while maintaining strength. New lamination methods and new materials, which provide greater strength to the hull, have allowed for increased glass surfaces and openings in the boat.
Technical data: length: 15.73 m; width: 7.89 m; draft: 1.07 – 2.30 m; displacement: 12,500 – 15,700 kg; sup. sail: 155 sq. m; shipyard: Outremer.
La Grande Motte 2023- Nautitech 40 Open – 11.98 m – The right compromise
A new, never-before-seen 3-cabin owner’s version is presented at the Salon International du Multicoque of the Nautitech 40 Open. Designed by Marc Lombard small-crew sailing, this luxurious catamaran offers the right compromise between comfort and exceptional sailing performance. The salon and cockpit protected by hard top have been amalgamated to optimize the space on board, therein lies the “Open” concept. Large volumes, natural light with 360-degree views and comfort are the main features of this exceptional catamaran that can accommodate up to 8 people.
Technical data: f. t. length: 11.98 m; w.: 6.91 m; draught: 1.35 m; displacement: 8,500 kg; sup. sail: 91 sq. m; shipyard: Nautitech.
Catamarans “out of the chorus” from La Grande Motte
Dazcat Ocean Cruiser 55 – 16.76 m – Bow Cockpit
The main feature of this new Dazcat Ocean Cruiser 55 is the adoption of a forward cockpit/maneuvering station. Another driver’s station is located at mid-height on the starboard side. Weights are well balanced in the center, and movable carbon drifts help ensure excellent upwind performance. The hard top is designed to optimize the surface area of the solar panels, which cover a large part of the surface. An engine with a diesel/electric hybrid drive can be installed as an option on the Ocean Cruiser 55.
Technical data: length f. t.: 16.76 m; width: 8 m; draught: n.d.; displacement: 12,000 kg; sup. vel.: 151 sqm; yard: Dazcat.
Code C.69 Black Pepper – 21 m – Full carbon
A new design from French shipyard Black Pepper Yachts, Code C69 is a 21-meter carbon catamaran designed by François Pérus. Inside, a luxurious living space with upscale materials and equipment ensures maximum comfort. Code C.69 is designed to be maneuvered safely with a small crew. This new catamaran will be launched on the market in 2024.
Technical data: length f. t.: 21 m; width: 9.50 m; draught: 1.20 – 2.80m; displacement: 17,500 kg; sup. sail: 220 sq. m; shipyard: Black Pepper.
La Grande Motte 2023. Squalt CK64 – 19.51 – Eco-friendly
Produced by the Squalt Marine shipyard since 2019, this 19.51-meter aluminum catamaran has 4 guest cabins and a draft of 1.30 meters. Squalt CK64 is a CE class (A) certified multihull made for ocean sailing. The use of aluminum as a construction material is more environmentally friendly than fiberglass, as well as stiffer and safer. This is the latest model made by Claude Kermoal, a catamaran builder with more than 30 years of experience in the industry.
Technical data: length f. t.: 19.51 m; width: 5.49 m; draught: 1.30 m; displacement: 21,500 kg; sup. sail: 250 sq. m; shipyard: Squalt Marine.

X-Yachts owners, unite: there’s a regatta just for you (even Classic!).
In 1979 a shipyard was born that was destined to carve its name in the history of yachting: it was X-Yachts, of which the legendary X-79 became the standard-bearer. An excellent first design, signed Jeppesen, the small 7.9-meter would be
