Who are the early entrants for the VELA Cup Tuscany
The first leg of the VELA Cup is still just under two months away, and already many crews have signed up. Some are local, such as Medea, Marco Frediani’s Dufour Performance 40, with a close-knit, well-rounded crew, used to participate in club and offshore regattas such as the 151 Miglia. Others, however, come from further afield such as Andrea Righini and his Kiti Munina, a Rustler 36, a legendary British boat, built in modern fiberglass, but with classic style and shapes, with a long keel.
There are also two Classic boats already entered, which is great news this year with prize dedicated to those boats, including production and fiberglass boats, more than 25 years old. They are Moreno Burattini’s Musonero, a historic Comet 910 – one of the Comar shipyard’s best-known boats produced in more than 600 examples since 1971 over a period of 15 years-at its first regatta, and Half Moon by Francesco Nessi, a boat with classic lines built of steel in the Netherlands in 1982 to a design by John Alden, dating back to 1935.
There is also no shortage of circuit regulars, such as Pamela Thamar Kagel’s Morgana I, a Bavaria 36 AC, e Daniele Giomi’s Acuarela, a Beneteau Oceanis 38.1; while there are already those who, after taking a look at the calendar, plan to participate in multiple stages of the VELA Cup 2023 such as Carlo Alberto Micheli’s Cimpiressa, a Dufour 360 Grand Large, e Kito 1930 by Carlo Maria Ambrosini, a Latini 52, semi-custom cruising/racing boat.
