Play with us. In two articles, we decided to tell you about fourteen models of “midsize” series catamarans and trimarans, on the 13-15 meters in length overall.
14 “Villas by the Sea” catamarans of 110 sq. m.
The extent to which, in our opinion, one can speak of a true seaside villa.
So, we said to ourselves, why not calculate “spanning” the space occupied by a multihull, “real estate” style? The easiest way, after racking our brains for a long time, was right in front of us. Length times width, nothing could be easier and more straightforward to immediately realize what kind of catamaran you have on your hands.
Like it was the surface of a house (walls included), excluding the lockers (our “cellar”) and offsetting the space below deck (only the cabins in the side hulls and bathrooms, considering that nowadays all catamarans have a seamless panoramic deckhouse with the deck) with that of the “balconies and terraces” (side passages, bow sundecks any fly), which in the houses are counted separately.
Of the 14 models examined, which we will analyze in detail in today’s article and the next, we found that the footprint ranges from 99 meters for the Nautitech 44 Open to 120 for the trimaran Neel 47, which is wider by virtue of its three hulls. The average is about 110 square meters.
In the table we have compiled you will find, in addition to overall length and beam, also displacement and sail area under white sails, the two data that will make you immediately understand the “vocation” of the multihull in question: more cruising or with performance ambitions. Prices are without VAT, ex site, optionals excluded. Have fun!
7 new catamarans from 13.34 to 14.28 m
And now, it is time to talk about the first 7 new catamarans (or rather, six catamarans and one trimaran!) from 13.34 to 14.28 m. Seven seaside villas we present in ascending order of length, each with its own insights.
Excess 14 – 13.34 m – Skylounge straluminous
VPLP project for the novelty launched by Excess in 2022. The hull features sleek lines and specially designed portholes in the broadside. Inside is a large, brightly lit “skylounge” square.
Technical data: length f. t.: 13.34 m; width: 7.87 m; draft: 1.48 m; displacement: 12,800 kg; sup. vel.: 123 sq. m; yard: Excess.
Nautitech 44 – 13.40 m – Seaworthiness according to Lombard
You won’t find luxurious flybridges, but a marine boat for cruising the world and for “bluewater” cruising that Marc Lombard designed in collaboration with Nautitech’s research and development team (which in turn involved owners to better understand their needs).
Technical data: f. t. length: 13.40 m; w.: 7.40 m; draught: 1.44 m; displacement: 10,900 kg; sup. vel.: 105 sqm; shipyard: Nautitech.
Leopard 45 – 13.72 m – Quality made in South Africa
Designed by Simonis & Voogd Yacht Design, this South African brand catamaran stands out with an impressive fly bridge equipped with a large lounge area. Very distinctive is the continuous glazing of the deckhouse, which has a sinuous curve and characterizes the boat as well as embellishing the interior with light.
Technical data: length f. t.: 13.72 m; width: 7.36 m; draft: 1.50 m; displacement: 16,400 kg; sup. vel.: 124.5 sq. m; shipyard: Leopard.
Tanna 47 – 13.94 m – Up to 5 cabins
The vessel from the giant Fountaine Pajot is offered with two different interior layout configurations. The first, for private and family use, is the “Maestro,” while the one for charter use is the “Quintet” with as many as five double cabins.
Technical data: hull length: 13.94 m; beam: 7.70 m; draft: 1.20 m; displacement: 14,700 kg; sup. sail: 129 sq m; shipyard: Fountaine Pajot.
Catamarans. Lagoon 46 – 13.99 m – Excellent comfort/performance mix
VPLP design for the water lines, Nauta Design for the interiors, together they sign a catamaran that straddles the line between owner cruise and charter. Important interior spaces, as well as the general brightness of the cabins and living area, good sailing capabilities.
Technical data: length f. t.: 13.99 m; width: 7.96 m; draft: 1.30 m; displacement: 15,770 kg; sup. vel.: 123 sq. m; shipyard: Lagoon.
Neel 47 – 14.20 m – Three hulls are better than two
Designed by Marc Lombard, the Neel 47 is an original proposal for the cruising world. Being wider than a cat increases space, but so does performance and stability. Good ratio of displacement to sail area.
Technical data: length f. t.: 14.20 m; width: 8.50 m; draft: 1.58 m; displacement: 10,600 kg; sup. vel.: 120 sqm; shipyard: Neel.
Catamarans. Bali 4.6 – 14.28 m – Comfort Workshop
A true “thoroughbred” Bali that encapsulates in one design all the successful solutions that Bali has pioneered on its cruising catamarans. From the forward cockpit to the living area on the large fly bridge, with the sliding door aft and forward to have the inner quad connected to the cockpits.
Technical data: length f. t.: 14.28 m; width: 7.66 m; draft: 1.21 m; displacement: 13,600 kg; sup. vel.: 124 sqm; shipyard: Catana Group.
The other catamarans we will present
In the next installment: Alubat Ovnicat 48, Outremer 45, Dufour Cat 48, Balance 482, C-Cat 48, Itacatamarans 14.99, Catana Ocean Class
