Chinese shipyard’s boats
Far East
are famous for being fast sport boats that are presented to the market at a very competitive price. New 2023 news takes the brand into previously unexplored territory for the first time: Far East will produce the first all-electric cruising catamaran in its history, the Far East 42C.
The characteristics of the project
The Far East 42 C is actually the second cat produced by the shipyard, but the first, the 36C, followed more of a sport boat philosophy. The 42 C was unveiled at the Shanghai boat show, the design is by Simonis Voogd Design , which also designed the yard’s monohulls. Somewhat surprisingly, the Far East 42C is a true cruising cat. It therefore departs from the tradition of the shipyard, which until now had never produced cruisers, and decides to do so by entering the world of catamarans. This is confirmed by the fly bridge, and the proposed version explicitly dedicated to charter.

The full-glass panoramic deckhouse is a current classic in the cat world and is also offered on the Far East, but the real innovation is in the area of propulsion. The motorization was developed by the company ePropulsion and involves an integrated system of battery pack, wind, solar, and hydro generation .
Far East 42C – The Electric Propulsion
Propulsion involves the lithium iron phosphate batteries for a power of 188.41 kW/h and a motor range that can reach up to 20 hours for about 100 nautical miles at 5 knots when using only the batteries. By integrating with wind, solar and hydropower, autonomy can be increased.
By reducing engine hours, the cat can motor up to 8 knots of speed, roughly in line with what a classic propulsion would do on a boat of this size. The range would drop to around 12 hours, still enough to cover nearly 100 miles.
No official project numbers have been released yet, apart from the length, which will be 12.80 meters.
