Five used boats from 5.80 to 9.14 m

These are five vessels, that is, unregistered (and therefore “paperless”) suitable for all kinds of sailors. From the comfortable cruiser to the “made in Cornwall” boat lover. We present them in ascending order of length. A safe used car: guarantees the Sailing Newspaper!

Elan 19 – 5.80 m – The perfect little boat to get started

The first of the used boats for sale on our marketplace is a “mignon” gem from the 1980s, perfect as a first boat. We are talking about an Elan 19 (5.80 x 2.49 m), a small cruiser designed in 1985 by the Slovenian firm J&J (and remained in production until 1991).

This is a versatile boat, easily trolleyed since it has a movable centreboard and external hanging rudder, as well as a collapsible mast. The construction is solid and safety is ensured by a very low center of gravity. Armed at 7/8, the ratio of sail area (23 sq m) to displacement (650 kg) denotes good performance. Maneuvers are simple and essential, the cockpit is functional while below deck the interior can accommodate four people.

The model we offer is from 1986 and can be seen in Cecina. Well maintained, with Yamaha 6-horsepower outboard motor and complete set of sails, it is sold at a very attractive price.

Maxus 24 Evo – 7.35 m – Minicruise made in Poland

The second of the used boats we offer today is a “0-mile,” so in like-new condition, made in Poland. A Maxus 24 Evo (7.35 x 2.55 m, 8.25 overall), a version with a revised look of the previous model, the Maxus 24. A small 7.35-meter hull ideal for short cruises but also for being transported anywhere by trolley, thanks to a low displacement of only 1,750 kilograms, a feature that also helps save on operating costs.

The Maxus 24, a 2016 design, has everything needed for a reasonably comfortable cruise for a small family. The trump card of this small boat are the choices of designer Jacek Daszkiewicz, who already had good ideas for making a small boat comfortable enough for a family that wants to enjoy the sea: and this new model confirms that.

The Polish shipyard has markedly improved the boat’s aesthetics, although the hull lines remain the same, the deck is more appealing thanks to a more aggressively designed deckhouse: the length, gains about 30 centimeters, and the interior features more polished and modern finishes with woods and colors that are apt.

The cockpit has ergonomic lines and has correct spaces. Other features of this vessel include tiller steering, outboard motor, furling jib, and gennaker with whip. The interior features two double beds, one in the bow and the other in the stern (190 cm long), plus a cozy dinette that can accommodate two more people to sleep and separate toilet room.

The model under review, from 2022, can be seen in Malcesine, on Lake Garda.

Oceanis 281 – 8.42 m – Small large cruiser

We remain in the world of watercraft with the third of the used boats for sale. In production from 1995 to 2002, designed by Finot, the Beneteau Oceanis 281 (8.42 x 2.86 m) has everything you need for comfortable cruising despite its small size. 340 examples were made.

The boat’s cruiser vocation is evident from its “bulky” lines and an all-too-small sail plan (38.6 sq m for a total displacement of over 3 tons), but this is a hull that will surprise you with its performance, even in light winds. This means only one thing: Groupe Finot has done a great job.

The great interior roominess is also guessed from the large deckhouse (the walkways are somewhat sacrificed). The cockpit is spacious, in pure Oceanis style. Below deck, a double cabin aft and a berth forward, separated by a curtain from the U-shaped saloon seat, possibly convertible into a second berth. The kitchen is tilting with two burners, and the bathroom is convenient.

The model under the lens, dated 1999 and visible in the province of Agrigento, is equipped with every convenience and has been maintained maniacally. It is powered by Volvo Penta MD 2020-C BT inboard engines.

Used boats. Sun Odyssey 29.2 – 8.80 m – Ok, the vessel is right

The fourth of the used boats we offer is a perfect vessel if you are looking for a boat that is undemanding to maintain and easy to cruise on, even as a family. We are talking about a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 29.2 (8.80 x 2.98 m).

In production since 1998, the Sun Odyssey 29.2 has been produced in more than 250 examples. Similar in layout to its big brother 32.2, it was also designed by Jaques Fauroux, who favored safety and habitability over exaggerated performance. In spite of this, the SO 29.2 does quite well in medium winds, especially at carrying gaits. In strong winds it stays balanced at the helm and passes the wave with agility.

On deck, equipment is simplified as much as possible, the cockpit is well sheltered, and the stern offers a convenient descent to the sea. The interior: forward a cabin with a double V berth; in the center a square with opposing sofas; on either side of the descent on the port side the galley and on the starboard side the chart table. Aft is a cabin with a large “bunk” and bathroom.

The model for sale, dated 2004, can be seen in Nettuno (in Lazio) and is complete with all equipment. The Yanmar 18-hp engine is overhauled and the hull has just been done.

Cornish Pilot Cutter 30 – 9.14 m – A “home” vessel

We close our review of used boats with a vessel that is decidedly “out of the chorus”: a Cornish Pilot Cutter 30 (9.14 x 2.89 m), one of the boats that the Cornish Crabbers shipyard builds 100 percent in Cornwall.

A gaff-armed modern classic, perfect as a family cruiser. A large forward master cabin and two bunks await below deck. Draft is reduced due to the lifting keel system.

The well-equipped and functional kitchen includes a refrigerator, a gimbaled two-burner stove with oven and grill, ample storage space, and a sink with pressurized water system. A separate stall contains a toilet and shower that make life aboard more comfortable during long periods at sea.

The model for sale, from 1993, can be seen in Friuli. In excellent condition (one owner), it has a teak deck and all the equipment you need if you want a real “houseboat.”
