How to repair sails by yourself
Through sail reopening kits, seams or flying repairs can be done independently. If the sail is badly damaged, however, it is necessary to go to the sailmaker. One of the most widely used technologies to make repairs easily on board is the use of Dacron adhesive tapes to repair sails.
A small cut in the sails, if not repaired immediately, will spread over the entire ferzo, damaging it.
In today’s video-episode, Roberto Westermann, of Di-Tech Sail makers in Lavagna, demonstrates how to use dacron tape to make a patch on cruising sails.
- Clean and dry the tear area with fresh water
- Making a temporary patch to align the flaps
- Cut two patches of appropriate size, taking care to round off the edges at the corners
