Made in Italy can also be a value in the world of sail design and construction, which is why the news of the entry of Velman Sails in the Quantum Group, and in particular in Quantum Italia, the Genoa-based company led by Vittorio D’Albertas.
Indeed, the sailing company had been looking for some time for a site not far from Liguria to increase its production capacity, and it identified Velman, a brand founded by Alberto Manfredini, as having the ideal characteristics. That’s because the historic Tuscan sailmaker based in Massa, which has been active in the industry for more than 30 years, represents cutting-edge excellence in the world of lamination and in-house production of technological membranes, one of the pioneering companies in the world of laminated sails in Italy. This is no small advantage for the production and development of construction technologies.
Quantum Italy chooses Velman
“For all intents and purposes it will be a second Quantum Italia production site,” Vittorio D’Albertas told us, “with the two brands currently coexisting on some product lines. Velman will continue with its laminating work, which has made it a cutting-edge business and in the past has also made it collaborate with the America’s Cup world. This will increase Quantum Italia’s made-in-Italy production,” continued D’Albertas, “also because Velman’s technological structure will give us the possibility to be able to engineer sails from scratch, deciding how to mix materials and basic elements, offering an increasingly custom product. We can then also pursue the project of

with more simplicity, which is a project is from IT and we as Quantum Italy have the exclusive use of them having joined them in the development. Alberto Manfredini will continue to be the manager of the Massa-based sailmaker, new additions to the group as technicians include Diego Morani and Alberto Grippo,” the president of Quantum Sails Italia explained to us .
