Five used boats from 10.80 m to 14.15 m
Used boats: Comet 11 – 10.80 m – Classic cruiser but “out of the chorus”
The first of the used boats for sale on our classifieds market that we want to tell you about is a Made in Italy classic. We are talking about a Comet 11 (10.80 x 3.60 m).
When it came out, at the 1977 Genoa Boat Show, it caused a sensation. Designer Finot designed a futuristic boat for the Comar shipyard in Fiumicino, with a rounded deckhouse, so fashionable today, at least ten years ahead of the trend. The cockpit was spacious, well covered without being stuffy, and the interior had a dinette larger than any other in its class. The special feature of this model is actually inside, with the square “living room” occupying half the boat and the master cabin in the middle.
Of course, you may not like its line, the freeboard is very high, and it has a somewhat “plastic” look. But it is definitely a special boat, plus, for those times it had more than decent sailing performance, excluding narrow windward. From 1983 a Plus version with a convenient aft spoiler was launched. Not hard to find on the used market, given its wide circulation (it remained in production from 1977 to 1993) and good quality fiberglass construction.
The model for sale can be seen in Rimini. It is from 1979 but is “rejuvenated” by a long series of refit work, most recently the installation of synthetic teak in the cockpit that just took place.
Hanse 385 – 11.40 m – The German-style cruiser
We continue with the second of the used cruising boats in review. TheHanse 385 (11.40 x 3.88 m) is definitely a good choice if you want to be comfortable.
The Judel/Vrolijk firm, for this Hanse 385 (produced starting in 2011), increased volumes by about 20 percent over the predecessor 375. Maneuvers run largely recessed into the deckhouse, the transom can be folded down: there is no shortage of Hanse trademarks. As the self-ventilating bow. It was also available in a 3-cabin version (one master forward and two doubles aft).
The model we offer here, from 2014, is powered by Volvo Penta 27-horsepower inboard (about 700 motorcycle hours): the interior layout is one with two cabins and a bathroom. In the cockpit, the double wheelhouse. Among the boat’s many endowments: solar panels, platform, teak cockpit, dinghy, AIS, speedometer, electric windlass, swim ladder, heater, wind station, windex…
Used boats: Bavaria 40 Cruiser – 12.35 m – Safe, comfortable, yet “sleek”
Let’s move on to the third of the boats used under the lens. Again we stay in Germany with a Bavaria 40 Cruiser (12.35 x 3.99 m).
Nearly vertical foredeck with fairly honed entry sections and a wide stern with high exits over the water make this pure cruiser (designed by J&J) resemble a modern cruiser racer. But its cruising character has not been erased. The ratio of displacement to sail area thus remains low, just as the spaces below deck remain cozy and livable.
The elimination of the spoiler and humpback allowed for aft cockpit space, allowing the deckhouse to be set back and gain volume below deck.
The model for sale, which is located in La Spezia, is from 2009. Powered by Volvo penta 40 horsepower, it is equipped with every convenience.
Beneteau Oceanis 430 – 12.96 m – The “super-four-cabin”
We continue with the fourth of the used cruising boats on the list. A distinctive boat, despite being an Oceanis.
The Beneteau Oceanis 430 (12.96 x 4.22 m) in the late 1980s invaded the charter boat market due to its truly unique habitability in the 12/13 meter category and attractive price. The Oceanis 430 was produced in about 450 examples from ’86 to ’93.
Special care in inspecting the condition of this boat is obvious if you choose the four-cabin version that has almost certainly sailed as a charter boat for a long time. The three-cabin version had the owner’s cabin forward and two twins aft, but there was also a four-cabin version.
There were two bathrooms. Nice wall-mounted galley, called American style, which then adopted almost all later Oceanis. On deck lots of flat spaces for lounging and a nice cockpit with folding table. Convenient sea drop and aft platform. Like all these boats, it suffers upwind with little wind, while the 430 is especially fast in slack/pooping gaits with wind. The design is by Philippe Briand.
The model we offer, dated 1990 and visible in Trapani, is in the four-cabin, two-bathroom version. The inboard is a Perkins 50-horsepower naturally aspirated, definitely reliable. The boat has gone through several refits, is beautifully maintained and the price, not high, is negotiable…
Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2 – 14.15 m – Successful!
We close our review of used boats with another “milestone” of comfortable cruising, also signed by Philippe Briand. A Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2 (14.15 x 4.48 m).
In production since 1995 first under the designation 45.1 and since 1997, with minor modifications, 45.2 has passed the five hundred mark produced. This is also thanks to the success of the four-cabin charter version, offered as an option with the three-cabin version. There is also a version with a two-meter longer mast that enables it to perform well in light winds.
The other alternative is between long bulb (draft 2 m) and short bulb (1.60 m). Comfortable at the highest level, the large cockpit takes advantage of the design’s considerable width and the convenience of the two helm wheels that clear a passage to the stern, which ends in an equipped swim platform. Inside, the square is developed with a galley broadside on the left opposed to a U-shaped dinette with ten seats. Two bathrooms and a chart table, in the owner’s version with a large stateroom in the bow, complete the interior layout of this particularly apt cruising boat.
The boat for sale is located in Fiumara (Rome) and is from 1998. Features oversized mast with new rigging. The engine is Yanmar 90-horsepower inboard turbo diesel intercooler. The version of the interior has four cabins with those in the bow convertible into a master cabin.
