How much does it cost me to have my inboard engine serviced? Counting in hand, here are the items billed by a licensed repair shop for periodic engine maintenance on a 9- to 12-meter cruising sailboat.

How much does inboard engine servicing cost?

The cost of inboard engine servicing, performed by authorized workshop/service, depends on engine dipology and manufacturer. We took as an example some invoices issued by a well-known boating service, referring to periodic maintenance to be carried out every 200 motorcycle hours or at least 1 time per year .

We are referring to the cost of periodic servicing of aspirated, saildrive-foot diesel inboard engines installed on 9- to 12-meter cruising sailboats, and still within the warranty period (typically 3 years).

We considered only the installation of genuine parts and that all labor be performed only by mechanics certified by the manufacturer’s workshop. We are referring to a “standard” service, i.e., without any special spare parts provided by multi-year periodic maintenance such as exchanger/riser/saildrive etc., performed with the boat dry and therefore with the sacrificial anode replacement.

The costs of spare parts and labor

Here are the parts costs of a periodic service, excluding VAT .
Impeller and gasket, 35 euros. Sacrificial anodes foot and propeller: 52 euros. Oil filter, 25 euros. Diesel filter, 30 euros. 4 liters engine oil, 44 euros. 3 liters saildrive oil, 32 euros. Antifreeze coolant : 15 euro, Service belt 20 euro, small parts and grease: 22 euro. Total spare parts: 275 euros, which becomes in with vat 335 euros including vat (22%) .

As for the labor For replacement surgery of the materials indicated above, plus general inspection and tightening, the prices are about 200 euros, to which should be added either the transportation cost, 50 to 100 euros or sometimes the cost of disposal Used oils from 20 to 50 euros, always excluding vat. In the average case we can estimate a total of 300 euros for labor including vat .

Answering the question how much does inboard engine servicing cost, with reference to a periodic annual servicing or every 200 motorcycle hours, on a 10-12 meter cruising boat, we can say that this is around a total of 630 euros including vat (with variations of 150 euros more or less).
