His hands were very strong, almost “squeezing” you. As strong his Roman accent. He was a gentle giant.
Good wind Andrea De Marinis
Andrea De Marinis, 66 (he was born in Rome in 1956), passed away suddenly and prematurely on the night of Jan. 2.
An eclectic and experienced sailor, Andrea was part of Azzurra’s crew in the 1983 and 1987 editions of the America’s Cup, contested in Newport, USA, and Freemantle, Australia, respectively, and then continued to race for a long time in many classes including vintage boats.
A physical grinder, but endowed with a great head Andrea had continued his racing career in the role of navigator, winning three world titles in the 12 Meters S.I. class. Recently, he had been aboard Patrizio Bertelli’s 12 Meters S.I. Nyala. In 2008, he had also won the ORC World Championship.
In his everyday life, Andrea had turned his great passion for the world of communication into a profession, expertly specializing in audiovisual and documentary productions.
His longtime friends gather around his family and mourn his passing together, remembering the reserved but at the same time generous man and the great professional.
Andrea’s funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 5, at 3 p.m. in a secular service at the Waldensian Church in Rome, Via Marianna Dionigi, 59.
Good Wind Andrea
